Re: big oboes! Apparently they'e thinking of making piccolo heckelphones again! Those are little high-pitched heckelphones that play a fourth higher than an oboe. I can't imagine the sound.
Re: big oboes! Wow!!! I found somewhere that said about all the different flutes (can't remember where though, sorry) and found it fascinating that they have piccolo in F and ones with weird names

Re: big oboes! The flute d'amour is my favorite flute. It's pitched a minor third lower than the standard flute, and has a rather mournfull sound ( rather like the way an oboe d'amore sounds compared to the ordinary oboe ).
