Re: Why do you play the trumpet? Oh, great... noone talks here, and this is an instrument that I know very little about.
I wonder if trumpeters ever feel bad about hurting the ears of people that sit near them?
--- Breathing is important! If you don't breathe, your sound will deteriorate, your phrasing will suffer, and you will die.
Try listening to Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in Eb, mvmt 2. That makes the trumpet sound warm and expressive and ... nice!

Re: Why do you play the trumpet? I don't know it all that well. I should listen to it again some time!

Re: Why do you play the trumpet? I've always thought brass sounded better from a distance. When I can hear a brass band playing at the other end of the conservatory, the effect is somewhat magical.

Re: Why do you play the trumpet? Indeed. Not that I've heard them in a conservatory at all, but I've heard brass bands from a distance. Having said then, when close to one I find they make the most amazing harmonics. Really, really really fascinating ones!
