What composers do you feel are under appreciated by the public at large? Of course, we're under the assumption that everyone here is fabulously talented and is there for an underappreciated composer, so there is no need to put your own name down.
Here is my list:
Meyerbeer
Varese
Brian
Schoenberg
Webern
Szymonowski
Martinu
Bax
Schmitt
Schmidt
I'll add more to the list as I think of them...

Re: Underappreciated composers Oo I can't think of any!

Re: Underappreciated composers I'm thinking of adding Schnittke and Berio, but I've only heard a handfull of works by both composers. I'm hoping to get Berio's sequenza for viola. If it's anywhere near as good as his fantastic sequenza for bassoon, it'll be great.

Re: Underappreciated composers I've thought of a few more. Bax and the two Schmi -dts -tts will be added ( Franz and Florent ). I'd like to add Penderecki, but haven't heard enough of his music. Scriabin and Janaceck are popular, so I'm not sure if I should add them. Scriabin's piano works are often unfairly neglected, and Janaceck's operas aren't yet recognised as masterpeices by the general public... I've got to think about those two...
Re: Underappreciated composers My friend is absolutely MAD about Leos Janacek

Re: Underappreciated composers They produced the Cunning Little Vixen at the local opera house last year... it was a really good opera, despite the slightly bizzare storyline. I went to see it twice.
