Re: Classical music lovers- what is the best musical period?
considering you said "classical" music lovers ... why is "classical" a choice?? Especially if you can only pick two... b/c I love classical but I left it out b/c I like other stuff too and it seems like classical is a given..

Re: Classical music lovers- what is the best musical period?
I was using classical music in a general sense... to mean 'not popular music or jazz'
not in the sense of the style being written in Europe between ca 1750-1820.
How many options do you think the poll should have? I'll see if I can change it to have more if people think that 2 is insufficient.
There will soon be more polls for other styles of music.

Re: Classical music lovers- what is the best musical period?
I like some romantic music, but not all. I like the operas from that time, but a lot of the piano and orchestral music bores me. I find rennaisance and classical era boring ( sorry mozart, but two hours of you and I'm asleep ).
Baroque music can be great fun to listen to, very entertaining. I love listening to Vivaldi's operas and concertos, and a lot of the french baroque repertoire. So I voted for baroque. But...
I love modern era music. Not Schoenberg, but Bartok, Stravinsky, Strauss, Ravel and quite a few english composers, my favorites being Vaughan Williams and Havergal Brian. You've got to hear some H. Brian; the gothic symphony is great! 200 instruments and every instrument is used perfectly!
So modern also got my vote. Besides, I like to compose and that makes me a modern!

Hmm... I have to admit that I preffer the Italian kind. I'm not a wagnerite . I appreciate what he did for music, but I don't enjoy his music. I also like French opera. And I like some modern german opera that's borderline modern/romantic ( Strauss ). But Strauss wrote mainly past 1900.

Re: Classical music lovers- what is the best musical period?
I love from Baroque to Romantic, and also some early 20th century such as Elgar. I voted Baroque though, because it seems to be the only style to which when I'm listening I can accept that I'm not going to be able to follow one instrument's part due to all the counterpoint etc, whereas othe styles it frustates me that othe people can pick out parts and I can't. Plus Baroque music is so EXCITING! Not that othe styles aren't but I've always been drawn to Baroque since first hearing it
