Should we return to SupaNova/Animania?

After attending SupaNova Sydney last weekend, I was asked by SupaNova's organiser why we had stopped running the OzFormers booth (which we ran at SupaNova Sydney 2003) and expressed interest in continuing to see the further promotion of Transfandom at SupaNova.

OzFormers has done TF promotions at 3 cons so far - SupaNova 2003, Animania 2003 and Animania 2004. The first two were done to survey the fans and see if there was enough interest to warrant running a dedicated Transformers convention. The SupaNova booth was very popular and convinced us that it was worthwhile to run a TF con, so we used Animania to further promote Transfandom and promote the convention. But now that the convention has become a reality, we simply don't have the resources to run another convention booth. Organising a convention consumes a lot of time and money as it is - let alone trying to organise and fund boothes at other conventions - it's just not possible for us to do this.

Having said that, if any other fans are willing to establish a TF promotional booth, then I would definitely show my support. As I said, a lot of my time and money is already committed to the Sabretron convention, however if someone else would be willing to fund a future SupaNova/Animania booth, then I would be willing to give up some of my time to and contacts with these convention organisers to get things happening - in other words, I am willing to organise and run these boothes if someone else is willing to sponsor them.

As primary sponsor, you would get most of the proceeds that we would make - although we have always managed to break even, do NOT expect to be making any profit (because we certainly never have). This is all one big non-profit labour of love.

Even if a handful of fans pledged only $100 each, we could actually get a booth running at SupaNova and/or Animania.

How much does it cost to set up a booth anyways?

It'd be good to get some exposure, especially at the larger anime conventions, but I guess you have to weigh up the costs of this with the realised benefits.

Hopefully with the movie in '06 the TF interest will pick up again as all the other 20ish year old people relive their childhood memories, making it perhaps beneficial to be present at the next conventions. emoticon

Er, this is something I'd rather not discuss in public.

PMed!! emoticon

If anyone else is interested, drop me a PM.
