Welcome To Shadow Den
The heat scorches, it cuts sharply through the air. The soil is burning. The volcano rumbles in the distance, the lava is boiling. It might burst any second now. Be careful.

Raven

Name: Raven

Age: Two years

Gender: Female

Physical Description: Much like a raven's plumage, Raven's fur is a glossy black. When the light shines on it right, it may reflect deep blue or purple. She has no facial markings, but her toes (not entire feet) are white, and her tailtip is white too. Her fur is thick and well groomed, and she has shaggy neckfur, almost like a mane. Her body is very lithe and flexible; she has a thin build, but stands on long legs. Hew paws are relatively smaller and her tail longer and bushier than other wolf's. Raven also has a powerful bite, and very sharp teeth.

Raven is also blind in one eye. Her good eye is a dark gold color, while the other retained the same blue as a pup's eye. She has good eyesight in her other eye, and her other senses are just a bit keener because of her detriment.

Personality:Raven is very arrogant, but it's only for her own insecurity. She has many flaws, such as her blind eye, so she tends to emplasize her strong points. Physically, she's very pretty, and she likes to flaunt. Even if she had a mate, she would still show off to other males, just for the sake of it. Raven is also very intuitive. She tends to know when things are out of place, and can almost always tell when she's being lied to.

Raven, being black, is easily spotted when hunting in open fields. She prefers to hunt in forests, where the shadows hide her. She is an excellent swimmer, being small and bouyant, but climbing cliffs and trees are her weaker areas of expertise.

Raven also has a malicious hate for humans. She would attack and kill one for no reason, so it would seem. But she has her reasons.

History: Raven was born of Crow and Boar, the Alphas of the Wildwood pack. The Wild Woods was the last forest still standing, ever since humans had taken over. But humans were industrializing like crazy, and had began to invade the Wild Woods. But Raven's tale goes back long before that. Humans were terrified of the wolves, and only the bravest would venture into the forest. The Alphaess was heavily pregnate, and her time would soon come to bring Boar's pups into the world. Days passed, and the pups were born. As mother Crow looked down, her tender face became swathed in sadness. Only two of the five pups were moving. She licked the still ones, over and over, but it was no use. Three of her babies had been born still. The two survivors, both female, eagerly made their way to her belly to nurse. The larger of the two was black, just like Crow, while the other, had inherited Boar's more colorful pelt.

As the pup's grew, it became clear which of the sisters was strongest, Raven, as she had been named, was clearly dominate of the weaker Finch. (As tradition of the Wildwood Pack, females are named for birds.) As Raven grew, her eyes began to change. One took a strong green golor, while the other retained the same blue as from puppyhood. "What's wrong with me?" She would ask her wise grandmother, Owl, who would smile down at her. "Nothing's wrong with you," she would say, "Your eye is special. Beautiful." Owl was a wise old wolf. She thought that such flaws gave a wolf character. Raven would be full of character. She was special, to Owl, at least.

Months passed, and she was almost fully grown. Stronger than her sister, Raven showed signed of becoming a strong Alpha when her parents retired. But the day when she would reign over the Wild Woods would never come. Humans had since been invading the woods for lumber and food. They always carried rifles, just in case they spyed a wolf. Many wolves wer killed, by the 'thundersticks', as Boar called them. With such a loud blast, how could they think otherwise? The Wild Woods was getting smaller every day, and wolf skins were now a common thing to be bartered among the settlers. The Wildwood Pack had no choice but to leave. But they had to wait until a suitable packland was found. Boar sent out sentries every day to scout out the surrounding land, but along the praries were homesteads, and a wolf could not live where there were humans, eager to sell wolfskins.

Raven woke abruptly one night to the stacatto sounds of gunshots. The settlers were making their last efforts to get rid of the wolves. Many wolves escaped to the far-off praries. Many wolves fell to the ground and didn't move. Her father was one of them. Torn between her struggling pack and her own safely, Raven was dumbstruck. She would never run and give up her land, but nor could she fight a human armed with a thunderstick. Wolves here had been taught that humans could not die by means of wolves. Warriors had tried to kill humans, but the warriors never returned to the pack. She stood stock-still, watching the wolves around her fall. Half the pack lay dead on the ground, wide-eyed and drenched in their own blood. Raven drew in a gasp. The world seemed to slow, as she watched what beheld her. Owl had fallen. Her grandmother, whom had taught her everything and showed her the truest of love, had been shot down by a human.

A hunter approched the dumbstruck Raven, his rifle pointed between her multicolor eyes. A severe expression on the man's face, it was matched by Raven's gentle features. The human's look softened upon looking into Raven's two eyes. "A spirit wolf..." The man muttered, and lowered his gun. As Native American legends go, a wolf with two-colored eyes, a Spirit Wolf, possesses magical powers, and to kill one would be to condemn your own soul. Though Raven was no Spirit Wolf, her blind eye had, unknowingly to her, saved her life. She ran beyond the forest, beyond the prarie, and into the wilderness. She ran until her heart almost gave out.

Days passed, and Raven didn't know where she was in the slightest. She was weak, hungry, and livid. Every thought that ran through her mind traced back to the humans. The men who annihilated her former pack. She snarled inwardly, thinking about what she could've done.

I could've fought! she screamed inside her head. I could've at least fought one human! At least one. Tears streamed down her already pained face. I could've at least stayed. Stayed, and died with my family. Raven stopped walking. My family... Owl... I never even... Raven trembled. Said goodbye. She couldn't stand it anymore. The pain of losing her pack was to great. She couldn't go on with her life, but she couldn't turn back either. What would she find? The bodies of her comrades, skinned and left for vultures? She had no choice but to move forward.

But something happened there that would change her outlook forever.

There, alone in the fields, was a man. Carrying a thunderstick, Raven assumed he was off to hunt wolves. To shoot them, skin them, and leave the carcasses for buzzards, as had been done to her pack. Raven stared at the human, her blood boiling with hatred. Men cannot die, she said to herself. A wolf cannot kill a human. The move Raven tried to convince herself, the angrier she got. But humans feel pain...

Raven recalled the night of her pack's downfall. A wolf had leaped at an armed human's chest, biting savagly. The man screamed in pain, and pulled the trigger. There was a flash of blood... the human's own blood, as the wolf was torn away by the bullet.

She walked on shaking legs slowly toward the man. Men can bleed. At this moment, Raven broke out into a sprint. The man was not far now, and his rifle was aimed right at Raven. Raven knew that there could only be one winner of this battle. The loser's body would litter the ground, and the winner would sleep well that night.

As far as she was concerned, Raven had never enjoyed a better night's sleep.
