posticon airman

hi can anyone tell me if there are plans to put a new track in at the airman and put bark or gravel down in the swims as every time it rains the track is like a assult course to walk through. And in the swims the mud splashes up and covers my bivvy in mud my bite alarms in mud and reels get gritty with the mud that comes up too it would be nice to fish there when it rains which has been a lot of the time this year and not have too come home and spend another day cleaning my fishing gear as ive already had to have my reels repaired once through dirt inside them affecting the bearings and it nice to see the extra price increase being put to use

Improvements to the track and swims at the Airman is high on the list of priorities. Track and swims at Broom Lake & Willington, more swims at Paxton, etc, etc, etc? More fish? More waters? The wish list is never ending!

The General Members Meeting on 28th October is an ideal forum for members to put forward their views on where they think the Club's priorities should be.

Dave,
I think Richards answer basically covers everything you have asked. A little tip for you though. . . pack a piece of plastic/tarpaulin in your kit if it is likely to rain. When you set your pod up you can place it over the plastic so if it does rain, dirt and grit does not splash back up onto your reels. This should help prevent the expensive repairs for a very small outlay! Once the rain has stopped you can then wipe any dirt off the plastic before the next downpour.

Re: airman

My main point was to protect your reels and alarms. Although it is a pain in the backside getting your bivvy etc "muddy", it does not affect it in such a way as to require expensive repairs.

Dave
Yes it is the only lake the club owns, and yes it is being "upgraded". However, at the end of the day it all comes down to money. People want the venues to be nice and well maintained, but a lot of people would moan if the membership costs were to go up to cover it.

Also another problem, in my opinion, is the severe lack of people turning up for working parties. For instance, last Saturday at Broom, only 5 people turned up to help. With that lack of support, any jobs on the "to do" list take a lot longer to accomplish. Now I know not everybody can make all the work parties, but out of a total membership of around 600 and only 5 people put the effort in. . . . well 6 really, there was a guy fishing the venue when we turned up and when given the choice to help out for a few hours he decided to move onto the river and fish instead!!!!!

This scenario was basically the same for all the Airman work parties I went to at the start of the year. This meant it took longer to rebuild the old dilapidated swims and some didn't get done at all!

I can appreciate your comments about your gear getting muddy, but hey, this is an outdoor sport/pastime. There are other more important things that need doing at the Airman other than putting woodchip down in the swims, things that require more time and money and need doing to make it safer rather than cleaner.

I know I keep going on about work parties but the more people that turn up, the more that can be done and quicker.

Re: airman

sorry andy but making the swims not so slippy and the path not so tricky to walk along is safer in my book i dont mind getting muddy as u put it far from it but getting home and having to clean all our stuff is a pain i think it would be nice to have a very nice looking lake not one thats looking rather tatty at the min and also i thought the membership had gone up but i understand your point about lack of members at the work parties but i noticed all the work that was done opening up the other swims in the handle across from the carpark has been in vain as its all over grown and nobody uses them so it would have made sense to repair the most used swims in my mind and left them till a later date but thats my opinion and i dont own the club i hope i can make the agm as i understand not every person has a pc and cannot coment on this topic and would be nice to hear other peoples opinions on differant subjects and also how the agm works
