Re: cats at the airmans
Hi Tom,
I tried liver last year for the cats (pigs I think) with no takers. Most of the cats I had came on lobworms or boilie baits. Regarding line, I personally use Whiplash Pro braid of a higher breaking strain than my hooklength. I very rarely use mono for cat or carp fishing these days, unless a water has a braid ban on it.
Hope this helps!

Re: cats at the airmans
End of March was when I started to fish for them last year. A well known cat angler (down the Airman at least) told me "When the bats are out. . . the Cats are out. . ."
Good luck for your new arrival within the next 5 days, hope all goes well!
Probably see you down the Airman this year.

Re: cats at the airmans
tom thum - there are several different 40's in there and the same with the 30's. And 20's, and kittens.
In other words, there are quite a few cats ranging from a few pounds to over 45lb.
My mate was luck enough to catch the 45lb last year and I caught a 40lb.
Good luck with the catfishing. I would suggest "upping" your mainline - I use 32lb braid and 25lb mantis for hooklengths. I've not lost a cat on them yet. Also consider your hooks. For years i have used ESB hooks and that is what I cought the 40 on but I have had several straighten out on me, so may change this year.

Re: cats at the airmans
So theres a few in there then Good news as i am going to be targetting them this year hopefully get up there with the big boys.
Are any of you guys going to the AGM?
I wouldn,t mind going if i can with the baby on the way and a three year old pulling strops and all that.
I wonder if the 3 rod issue will pop up personly i think its a good idea as since iv been a member at the begening of last year iv only night fished the airmans no othere venues and the most people that i have seen down there with me included doing a nite is 4.
I also think that if you pay for the night ticket aswell you should be able to bop another line in the water at least half an hour before the sun sets and pull it in before 7 in the morning so that othere anglers have a chance.
I can understand the issues with having 3 rods in durring the day as the venue can get a hammering in the day but at the nite i think its a different matter.
Im not moaning because im very happy with the club and all the venues but it would be very nice?

Re: cats at the airmans
Unfortunatley, I cant make the AGM. I would like to go but the missus is doing a college course at the moment and goes on a wednesday evening.
As for the 3 rod option, I agree that a third rod ought to be allowed. Vauxhall AC used to offer this at an extra charge of £15 a year on the membership and I have suggested this in the past. An extra revenue earner for the club etc.
I think the rule would have to be thought out a bit though.
Perhaps a 3rd rod option during night-fishing hours only or maybe run the 3 rod rule from Nov - March (inclusive).
I was at the airman last sunday for 48 hours. After dark there was one other angler there on the sunday night and I had the place to myself on monday night so I would hardly be interfereing with other anglers.
That said, I DON'T think you could run the 3rd rod option during the day, especially in summer as there would, invariably, be too many rods in the water.

Re: cats at the airmans
I would not mind paying and extra £20 on top of the nite permit if we could use one more rod at nite and to pack it up in the morning so the day anglers are in with a chance that would be no probs.
As you say it would be extra income for the club and it would also alow all the othere nite permit anglers to reach a pb which is also good press ect very beneficall.
I also think the november till march 3 rods inclusive is a good idea to.
