Re: need some reels
Tom, first of all congratulations!
Secondly, have a look on ebay. The Big pit/ baitrunner reels I use are Okuma powerliner PL-860's. If you shop around you can get brand new ones for 39.99 and sometimes cheaper on ebay. I have been using them for approx 18 months and have had no problems with them at all having caught cats to just under 30 lb and carp to over 50. They also do a PL-865 which has a deeper spool. I would recommend them to anyone. Ok so they aren't Shimano but as you say, you have to watch the pennies now.

Re: need some reels
Yep, I started taking my son fishing when he was 4. The first time I took him was to a small farm lake in Meppershall, I set him up on his little 6 foot glass rod on a waggler to catch Roach. He caught a couple of those, then we moved round the lake so I could "try" and catch a Carp for him to see. I was sitting about 10 feet away from him as he sat there watching his float. After 10 minutes he said his float had gone down, I told him to strike, which he did, and he had a fish on!
It swam towards him and came into the near bank right under his feet, I told him to lift the fish out, expecting it to be a Roach. He had hold of the rod with both hands and lifted, the rod tip stayed where it was and the rod just bent double!!
That was when I realised he had something a bit bigger on. I got the landing net and was showing him how to play it and we finally landed an 11lb 4oz Mirror! He was over the moon with it. Needless to say I DIDN'T catch a Carp that day, and had to put up with him taking the mickey out of me for the rest of the weekend! I will never forget that day, it was brilliant!
He now goes night fishing with me at the Airman, which he loves. Since that first trip his has incresed his PB to 19lb 3oz and he caught one of the few Tench to come out of the Airman last year!
His sister now wants to go. . . . does anyone know where I can buy a pink fishing rod from?????????

Re: need some reels
Surely someone on the committe MUST have a rod like that. No names mentioned, but you've just got to look at them.

Re: need some reels
i to take me kid and it seems every time she comes with me i catch more so she will be getting a ticket to night fish this year. the first time i took her was to a lake called rockells farm with a cheap £1 rod from £ land and i set her up first and that was it i didn't get a chance to set any of my stuff up because the fish are just crazy feeders in there and its a great little place to take your kids because you dont stop catching. any time of year
