Is there plans to restock willington for the coming season? If so will there be any large carp going in?

Re: Restock Willington
why on earth would you think of re-stocking Willington before the club has arranged some way of keeping the otters out??????????

Re: Restock Willington
I agree with Pinner as his response totally makes sense, why would you want to restock a lake whereby it is only a matter of time before more fish are mauled by otters?
However, this maybe a naïve or indeed stupid point to make, but as otter predatation is present and that there is very little that can be done other than to put up a fence that would be incredibly costly and time consuming and probably not possible anyway due to the land and the cows.
What would the cost implications and how possible is it to move the current fish to either Broom or the Airman? I know this sounds extreme, but to me this is the only option left to save the current stock in Willington. I am sure that there are bound to be procedures in place to protect fish and also control disease, but is moving the fish to another lake a possible option?

Re: Restock Willington
i totally agree with Stewart25! and to me his idea makes complete sence! if you cant protect the fish why not move them?
i know there is the arguement of possibly spreading deseise between the venus but surley you can get the fish tested??
the other arguement is who actually owns the fish?? is it the club or the land owner? To my knowlage the club have stocked a lot of carp over the years so surely the club owns the carp? but the bream and tench are another story!
what if the club came to an agreement to take the carp as they stocked them and possuibly purchase some of the big bream and tench??
let the arguement commence!!!!!

Re: Restock Willington
Before this discussion and speculation gets out of hand let me remind everyone there is an AGM next Wednesday. This is where answers to member's questions will be given, not through this forum that isn't restricted to club members.
Health checks are normally required for any fish movements and very few people realise just how many fish have to be sacrificed to carry out these checks:

If anyone is thinking about removing any fish from any SDAA water, let me remind them that it will constitute theft and the club will prosecute.

Re: Restock Willington
right lets set the reccord straight!
i am in no way condoning members moving fish! nor am i saying that moving the fish from willington to either the airman or broom is "THE ANSWER" it was just a suggestion!
I undersatand that some fish would have to be killed for these tests to be undertaken but surely this is worth it to save the vast majority?????
or just leave it and loose all the fish! and then you have a water that no one wants to fish!
again its only an option! and surely the more options the better!
eh?

Re: Restock Willington
12 carp in the 8-10lb bracket were stocked three days before the first (known) otter victim.
Stocking of Willington was before my time with the club, and probably before you needed a license to move fish. I believe the carp came from a number of sources.
Please don't listen to rumours and then try and perpetuate them by posting on a forum, especially when you have already stated you are not a member of the club this season. The club has not lost Broom Lake.
