Night Fishing Permits
Is there any truth in the rumour that the committee intend to introduce night fishing permits on Shefford Waters?
I can see this as a positive move in view of recent events at the Airman pit by regulating who fishes into dark, that the club rules are adhered to and certain "unsavoury" elements are not allowed onto the water from dusk till dawn.
However I am also somewhat concerned that this scheme (if introduced) will also incur an additional premium.
I have heard -and again, it is only hearsay - that the club could charge up to £65 in addition to the annual membership fee.
Has anyone got any ideas if this is just a rumour or whether it is under serious consideration?

Re: Night Fishing Permits
I can confirm that the proposal to introduce a night permit for members wishing to night fish the Airman Pit and/or Willington Lake was discussed at the General Members Meeting held on 23rd October 2007.
The proposed night permit will incur an additional fee on top of the annual membership fee, which will generate additional revenue for the club. The permit will have to be applied for separately and will carry a photo of the holder. Only permit holders will be allowed on these two waters during the times that constitute night fishing.
It was also proposed that a limit of five consecutive nights on club waters will be introduced.
The views of the members who attended the General Members Meeting were noted and are being considered by the committee.

Re: Night Fishing Permits
yes i too had heard mention of this, what would be the purpose of charging the additional fee? would it stop those who abuse the swims? have any affect on those who would fish for 5 nights then take a day off only to return the following day, i am very new at night fishing the airman and can appreciate how busy it gets but willington doesnt, would the extra revenue be more than that lost by those going elsewhere to fish? im not knocking the idea but think its a big thing to do. if prices go up anything like whats been mentioned then i will probably go elsewhere as there are several syndicates around the area with more exclusive fishing and at around £120..
not having to pay the extra has been a bonus of the club so i suppose this will be inevitable at some point in line with other local clubs....
I wait to see what happens

Re: Night Fishing Permits
im sorry but how can you charge extra for nite permits when you have only two lakes to fish or are you going to open broom up for nite fishing and if my son has to pay for one can he fish in his own swim at the airman i know there are people who expect to fish 3 rods if paying for a nite permit. if its only a small amount then theres no problem but if its anywhere near what people are saying then you will lose members the airman lake is the only lake you can nite fish and catch something well almost as for willington its full of weed and if you can get through that then you lucky charging for nite permits will not get rid of the people who abuse the lakes im afraid it will only make it worse keep the membership as it is and people who read this respect the club rules take your litter home have respect for other people coming in the swim after you have left if you need to cr..p bag it and take it home look after the lakes

Re: Night Fishing Permits
The putting on of a night permit will be contaversial but it comes down to what the cost will be. The concern will be will the extra cost put people off either renewing their card or attracting new members. Will it be those who wish to fish nights paying for those who dont. The night permit will not put off those who the club wish to see leave unless they simply wont grant them a night ticket as for some the extra levy means very little, but there are those who fish on a budget and wont be able to afford any price increases and as one member has already mentioned about children night fishing what will be their entitlements.

Re: Night Fishing Permits
Having given it a bit of thought (not a lot, just a bit)! I wonder if the club would consider work-party time in lieu of payment.
The idea being - you clock up x amount of work parties (say 4 days, for arguments sake) and you are automatically entitled to a free or subsidised night permit.
It would encourage more people to attend work parties at a variety of venues to "get the hours in" and would prove less of a financial burden on those that want to night fish but cannot afford the extra premium.
Thoughts?

Re: Night Fishing Permits
Would a club official please respond -
1. How much extra is the propsed night fishing permit?
2. Will this proposal be voted on at the AGM, or simply imposed upon members?

Re: Night Fishing Permits
I agree with the night permits if it is thought through properly. To expensive and it will deter the members the club wants to keep and to cheap and it is going to have no effect. I believe the biggest problem with night fishing is the amount of time anglers can stay on the water and the best compromise I can come up with would be a token payment for the night permit say £25 but introduce a 48 hour maximum stay in any 5 days rule with a two rod limit.

Re: Night Fishing Permits
I agree with steve67 last post. I think it would be a good thing, if applied in the correct manner.
Also the idea of off-setting a proportion of the cost against days spent on working parties could work. That way the people who are trying to maintain the venues, and therefore the attractiveness of the club to new members, are being rewarded for their efforts.
I must say it is refreshing to see people thinking about this subject with a level head, rather than just slating it as in another thread on this forum!

Which is why I addressed perfectly reasonable questions to the club rather than just spouting off without full knowledge of the facts.
Once those questions have been answered I think we will all be in a position to pass informed comment.
