Re: Night Fishing Permits
Same here, I don't see the need to dismiss the subject when no one knows what is going to happen. Unfortunately I am unable to make the AGM due to being at work that night. Could be interesting!

Re: Night Fishing Permits
regards to spouting off. feelings were vented after speaking to a few baliffs and was told could be up to fifty pound extra as there have already been so called talks which i feel is not accepteble as juniors could have to pay the full amount too which i was also told and as they have to fish in the same swims on certain lakes i think that is not fair as my 15 year old son is more than able to cope on his own in a swim next to me if its not a huge hike then im ok with it if it is then im not and will leave thats my view which i feel more members should have as theres a lot of people view the coments but dont have a say which is a shame. tight lines

Re: Night Fishing Permits
I appreciate your feelings on the subject, fishman. But as you have just stated in your last post, you have spoken to a couple of bailiffs about the night permit, however, as far as I'm aware there still has not been an official announcement. I understand this subjecxt will be discusssed at the AGM on March 25th. That would be the time for you to step forward and air your opinions.
I am sure you have read the contents of this thread, which I found to be more constructive, discussing it in a level headed manner, than just ranting about it. That helps no-one. As far as I'm concerned, I think you have a valid point with regards to your son going fishing with you. I have a 6 year old who is dying to go nightfishing with his Dad. I couldn't take him this year cos the weather was so lousy, and with respect to the night permit, it affects me as well. However, unfortunately, you cannot please everyone all of the time. If I am unable to take him nightfishing on a Shefford water then I will just have to dig deep and pay for a day ticket venue. Such is life. The one negative thing to no longer allowing juniors to fish on their parents ticket (in my case) or making a junior pay full night permit membership, is the fact that a potential life long member could be put off and either go elsewhere or give up on fishing altogether.
This subject does have far reaching implications for the club, and for every argument for it, there is one against it, hwever, I still believe talking about it in a sensible manner will be far more beneficial than just dismissing it based on rumours.

Re: Night Fishing Permits
I totaly agree with fishman291 how can you justify asking people to pay extra if you wanna fish nights? you may say that it creates more revenue for the club but with the money that you get from your members already, where is it going? it certainly is being used to sort out the weed problem at the airman.
You are gonna loose a lot of members to clubs with better facilities and looked after lakes for a lot less than what you will be charging.
The main question probably from most people is how can you justify this? and what will we gain from it?

Re: Night Fishing Permits
with regards to the extra revenue gained by the club if the night permit is introduced i don't think anyone should be complaining until we see how its spent because if the extra revenue is spent on improving the airmen as this is where the revenue will come from. it will be money well spent and much needed.
i for a fact would spend much more time at the airmen if the swims were tidier and safer especially after rain so i do appreciate the club needs to finance the work somehow so why not make us anglers that fish the airmen pay for the work that needs doing.
on the other hand if we pay the extra and nothing is improved we shall have a reason to complain.

Re: Night Fishing Permits
Best thing Shefford have ever done is itroduce the night permit,it's a lot cheaper than most other night tickets in some other clubs, and hopefully it will deter those that just think they fancy a couple of days camping.Hopefully the money raised will go to improving the night fishable waters even more. One thought on the Broom night fishing, now all night permit holders are regestered, how about having say 10 allocaited swims on the river bank for night fishing, these then have to be booked in advance with a max stay of 24 hrs. This means total control and tracability of the swims used, by the club,so any probs you know who was in where and when, this would not interfere with other lake users as you would only use the 10 swims.Any oter thoughts on this idea.

Re: Night Fishing Permits
colin33 good point and carpy1 what an excellent idea. ive started a new topic which will create some intresting answers(if the club dares to).once WE get the true answers then carpy1s points could or should be aired rightfully at the AGM. i know of other clubs that you have to book a night on,even mannor farm requires booking. as you write, the club will have full control and know who is on the water, when and where. i fished Airman friday and NOBODY asked for my £40 night ticket! i might not have even had a ticket and as for the guy drinking becks on the next peg! then on sunday at broom, NOBODY even checked me for a club card.

Re: Night Fishing Permits
Wormboy,
The bailiff's on the club are volunteers who also have lives away from the club. Unfortunately we cannot bailiff every water, every single day, although that is the aim.
For instance, I work permanent nights and start work at 9pm. However, I do get up early and go out and do a couple of hours bailiffing on one or two venues, before going home to cook my dinner and go to work. If you were a bailiff and started work at 9am, would you get up at 3am to go and do some bailiff work before work????
If you feel so strongly about NOT being bailiffed in the past couple of days, why don't you offer YOUR services as a club bailiff and help to put something back into the club? The head Bailiff's number is printed on the inside cover of your membership book.
As for the second comment about the person drinking Becks in the next swim, again, if that upsets you so much, why did you not phone the head bailiff and report the matter?
As bailiffs we rely on members informing us of events such as this so action can be taken, as it is impossible to be everywhere at once.
As usual on this forum there seems to be a lot of bleating going on and very few people trying to help. . .

Re: Night Fishing Permits
this isnt going to be a slanging match but you are right about bleating.
i was quite cheesed off yesterday after reading about the broom night(see my new posting, which hasnt had any official response)and was venting what people are thinking.
this is my first year on shefford and was ill informed earlier in the year about the £40 night ticket.the web site didnt show it,only the tackle shop told me but that was partly wrong.
the extra £40 doesnt really bother me because to me its not "extra" as ive never had a club book, however.
reading other peoples posts and bank chat sows seeds/ poisons your mind.what is the £40 for? wheres it going? is there a plan of use for members to see? is it a new labour style hidden tax but named in disguise? i think its unfair on fair weather anglers.
back to your points, the drinking of beer didnt bother me. i drink beer but cant be bothered to haul extra liquid on the bank, not just because the rules say no.
ive bailiffed before and would consider it again ,for this club or any other im fishing on.
