Re: airman again
You keep saying the airman is in poor state due to members not doing work parties but ask urself this. would you pay some one to fix your car but fix it urself??? We are paying more to fish the airman as it is.

Re: airman again
And at the end of the day sean, it is the anglers that are causing the degradation of the swims, and I don't mean in a malicious manner, but just through wear and tear.
I am presuming I have read your post correctly and not got the wrong end of the stick here. . . but if your car was broken (to use your example) and you took it to a garage, and they were going to charge you £40 per hour, and it was something you could fix yourself, would you pay the garage to do it?? Or would you use some of your precious free time to repair it and probably save yourself £100-150??? Again, I am hoping I have understood your post correctly, are you suggesting that because a night permit is required to fish the Airman, which obviously costs extra, you expect the club to get contractors in to do the "work party" work? How much money do you think that would cost? Approx 10 contractors per weekend, for at least a couple of months at the start of the year, and paying them weekend rates??
Sean on another thread you have asked questions about Willington and the Airman, work parties are a good way of getting information from people that fish the venues that don't necessarily write on the forum or perhaps wouldn't write down on here what they know, but would perhaps tell you in a face to face situation.
I have written plenty on this forum regarding work parties, and as you have probably guessed I am very much for them. I appreciate that people cannot make evey one, I certainly can't, but people go fishing at the weekend, so how come as soon as there is a work party everyone is busy??? Strange that. . . .
I just find it astounding that people are so anti-work party it makes me wonder what their houses are like! Do they let rubbish build up, paint to peel, the garden fence to fall apart and not do anything to tidy it up? Or does everyone pay out hard earned money to "get someone in" to do these running repairs?

Re: airman again
Because Sean, the last work party I did there in 2008 there were 3 committee members and 2 non-committee members, and with numbers like that very little can be achieved in the time set to do these repairs.
Had there been 10 or 15 non-committee members thee then far more would have been done! Its a simple case of numbers.

Re: airman again
Well maybe you should put forward a plan if members attend all the work parties they do not have to pay for a night permit then it would be win win !!!!!!!

Re: airman again
Funny how you are now trying to get a free night permit, yet in a previous post you said the night permit was a "good thing"
Last year there were two single night sessions held at Broom lake for those people that had attended numerous work parties. This was seen as a way to reward people for their efforts by allowing those members to night fish a venue that is not normally night fished. It rewarded members for their hard work, without reducing the funds coming into the club that are necessary to pay for repairing swims and stocking lakes with fish.
Would you attend several work parties this year if you were allowed to night fish Broom as a reward?

Re: airman again
Look all you are doing is twisting things! You must fish broom and the airman when a match is on. And I am not after a free night permit. Even if the club offerd a free night permit to fish the airman and willington if you did the work parties,I could not do all of them. guys that would would get a insentive for there hard work, After all as you say would cost much more to get contractors in. I no what I say and think is a waste of time so I will not put my say forward anymore. Yoe no all the answears carrie on.

Re: airman again
Sean, I am not twisting what you are saying, and if you feel I am then I apologise. What you have got to remember is that the club runs on limited resources, both monetarily and manpower wise. There are perhaps a dozen people who form the committee who are trying to do a very difficult job to run the club in EVERYONES best interest.
I am not a match angler, I have never fished a Club match. I mainly night fish for Carp and Cats interspersed with a bit of general angling if I have not got time for a 3 or 4 night session.
The incentive to fish Broom last year was for those people that had attended several work parties, not ALL of them. Whilst numbers at work parties are very low, the Committee fully appreciate the fact that people cannot make EVERY work party. However, if you only attend one or two, you have put the effort in and it is appreciated by those people trying to sort out repairs at the venues.
I do not know all the answers by any means, I only have my opinions, the same as you do, and we all have a right to express those opinions, so don't stop putting your say forward. This is a discussion forum, thats what its here for. The only problem with it is that most people seem to use it as a place to moan about the Club/Committee when they do not know the committee members or the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to keep the club running. Most of which is done by the Committee in their spare time.
Before you say it Sean, I am not a committee member either, however, I have got toknow a majority of the Committee by going to work parties and talking to them. This has given me, perhaps, (I don't know I may be wrong), a better view than most of what goes into the club and the problems that it faces and the work that is being done to rectify those problems. These ranges from things like repairing swims, increasing water rents, fish welfare, cormorants and crayfish as well arranging matches and other events to keep members interested and give them something out of the ordinary to do.
If you feel there is a problem, then by all means air that problem, but try to be constructive in your comments. If you see a problem and think you have an answer to that problem then air it, that way hopefully something can be done. It does not help anyone to just come on here and rant and rave for no reason.

Aah that's genius! So you're saying it should be the missus attending the work party.
