does anyone carp fish the airman during winter? if so do the carp move out into the deep water or any other particular areas which they have been caught?

Re: winter on the airman
Hi Mick,
I don't have any experience fishing the lake during winter, however, I intend to fish it this winter. I did a night session last week down there and had several carp out to 17lbs, so they are still feeding. . .
During walks around the lake I have noticed a few are still mooching around the margins despite several cold nights recently, but no where near as many as during the "summer" (allegedly).
This week I fished the lake for a day session, I didn't catch anything and only saw 3 carp all day, I did see a few shoals of small silver fish in the marginal areas though.
Personally, I think the fish do move off into deeper water when the temperature drops, however I think they will still patrol the margins for food, although probably only at certain times, which I havn't worked out yet.
Last week when I night fished it I moved around to the far side bank during the day, I had 5 big carp feeding just a few feet out, although I couldn't convince them to accept my hook bait! :-(
This week on my day session, despite light baiting in the same swims as last week, I didn't see anything. I think the only real difference was the temperature, when I night fished it the weather was mild, this week there has been a definite drop in temperature.
I have a couple of days off next week so may well do a night session again, I'll let you know how it goes!
If anyone else has any ideas or more experience and are willing to share the info, I'm all ears!

Re: winter on the airman
Well, fished the Airman today, had a couple of carp feeding in the margins, but again they wouldn't take my hook bait. Saw a few fish roll as night started drawing in, but that was it. Very quiet carpwise. . .

Re: winter on the airman
i have had some good success this winter on the airmen by spending a couple of hours a day walking round with minimum gear and watching where the carp are feeding as they move around the lake more than you would expect
counted 7 carp mooching around of the point this week and all good fish twenty minutes later saw the same group of fish in berts

Re: winter on the airman
I have fished the Airman for many winters and although i have caught a few the amount that do come out doesnt really justify freezing off my B#LL?CKS.
Dont get me wrong i still fish in winter but only the begining and the end of winter, very few fish come out in the very cold weather BUT they do come out.

Re: winter on the airman
I wouldn't count myself as a successful winter angler (although i know who carphugger is refering to).
That said, I've done several 24 / 48 hour sessions in Jan and feb and have yet to blank (thats the kiss of death for this winter)!!
If you can chose the days that you fish, obviously, mild spells can be productive.
ALL of the carp I've caught have come from the margins either at dusk, during the night, or first light.
Watch the water and be prepared to move (easier said than done with a full winter carp kit, I know).
The one major advantage that winter carpers have on the airman is lack of angling pressure. There are very few anglers that do session fishing during the colder months and I have had the lake to myself on several occasions.
This gives you plenty of scope to cast around or to bait up several swims.
