Re: Line Breakage - Monofil

ive just discovered to my cost that ultima power match deteriorates very quickly even when its been kept in a cool dark place .brought a few spools for my hooklinks last year which were fine. this season they are all breaking well under the test and knots are very weak had to throw the lot. so back to braid for me.

as for braided mainline any recommendations as i am thinking of switching from mono

Guilty as charged Alan! I've been praying for rain since witnessing the fish kill on the Ouse above Castle Lock three weeks back. If the river had been any slower it would have run backwards.

Much more colour and flow in the Ouse now. Fat lot of good it did me yesterday though - 6 small chub, a hawthorn bush and a great deal of willow fluff. The wretched stuff kept catching in the rings and took all the pleasure out of float fishing.

Ultima Pro-Match was the worst offender for me too Steve. I could take it on the chin if I'd picked it up for a pound at a market stall but some of this stuff cost me £6.95 for a 100M spool.

I'm using Drennan 8lb braid on my UM50 and it's tough as old boots. Like most braid it takes a while to saturate but, once it has, it sinks like a stone.

I find fluff in your ring can be most annoying.

I use pre-stretched mono for hooklengths when I am Chub fishing. I use Drennan Double Strength and have had no problems with that becoming brittle either.

I did buy a spool of Ultima Pro-match a couple of years ago, but didn't get on with it, I preferred the Double Strength and have been using it ever since.
