Willington
Hi.
I am thinking of fishing at Willington this weekend, I have fished the lake a few times, with little success. I plan to fish the swims by the entrance gate, near the lily-pads. I will feel about for some gravel patches and plan to fish one rod using pellet and the other using a groundbait feeder and lob-worm.
Does anyone know how Willington is fishing at the moment and also if my approach makes sense. Also, any tips will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Willington
i fished it on 20/09/08, just through the gate at the end of the long carpark. This was my first time on the lake and went feeling confident but it counted for nothing! Three guys that done a night had 1 bleep between them but that didnt deter me. I balled it in and loaded it with corn, pellets and some hemp and 10mm boilies. I got some single bleeps but no takes. I then put a wagler over the top(i had been feeding maggot over the initial bombardment)and couldnt even get a bite on single maggot.Im putting it down to the weather because it was blazing sun(my left side got baked when i fell asleep!).Had i stayed on for the night i feel that it my have switched on.Contrary to that, when i walked round the kissing gate later a guy and his missus were catching by just loose feed. From what i could gage, that part is deeper than where i fished.
I WILL BE BACK !!!

Re: Willington
Thanks Wormboy!
Is the bit by the 'kissing-gate', as you come in, on the right, where the lilly pads are?
If so, that is where I was planning to fish, is it a deeper part of the lake, I thought it was the shallowest?
Thanks

Re: Willington
It depends what species you are after. During the recent spell of calm weather the island was surrounded by a huge shoals of rudd on the surface with plenty of roach underneath. There were also plenty of pike in close proximity
If you are after bream and tench then put out large beds of bait and fish carp style. Large beds of boilies have proved more successful for these species rather than the traditional groundbait plus maggot and sweetcorn approach (ask the carp anglers who have been kept awake all night!).
If you are after carp you will first have to locate the carp and then avoid the other species.
The weed will soon be dying off and make fishing a little easier. That doesn't mean catching the carp will be any easier to catch, but they will be at their heaviest weights over the autumn months. Don't ignore the margins. How many club waters offer a realistic chance of catching a 40lb plus carp?

Re: Willington
thats it stuart25. as i stated,it was my first time on the lake but the guy i was chatting to had at least 8 feet below his float. Maybe Richard might know which is deeper. From his response to you, i feel gutted i didnt catch but im blaming the weather still!! im sure the regular carpers there could advise you better but most of them a mute.
Im gonna go back for another attack but will probably stay the night.
