Tench at Broom
Hi all. What do the tench at Broom tend to feed on? I have never fished Broom and wondered whether they are mainly caught by the carpers or whether people catch them on the float close in at all? I am not interested in carp but would like to bag a half decent tench or two and have seen pics of decent sized males in the gallery:-)

Re: Tench at Broom
i lost a nice one last year fishing tight to the island from the oposite side to the entrance! that was on Fresh fish boilie!
my mate caught a small one on the float in the margins on the farmers feild bank. I think that was on corn.
it will be interesting to see what people say as i would like to catch some decent tench also! my best is 5 and a half pounds but that was about 10 years ago!

Re: Tench at Broom
Well having seen 6lb plus males in the gallery there must be some tench in there pushing double figures, at least 9lbers! Shame you cant night fish the place, would also have liked to have had a go for the big bream in there too

Re: Tench at Broom
Over the past two years i have had tench from the farmers field side on dynamite baits scopex or the source boilies by fishing in the gaps between the islands.

Re: Tench at Broom
Cheers for the info lads. Looks like it will be a stepped down carp tactic on one rod and float on the other!!

Re: Tench at Broom
Oooh luncheon meat. Haven't had much success in recent years with this bait for the tench! Did you use anything specific for loosefeed??

Re: Tench at Broom
As the tench are so used to the carp baits that go in they come out more to small boilie tactics/ pellets on stepped down carp rigs. Due to the weed its best to find a clear spot or sort out some sort of pop up or neutral bait to allow it to sit on or just in the weed. I did no good al with the standard killer tench baits that you would normally expect to catch on I am going to try raking to see if that can create a a feeding area ( I will check this is allowed first!) as I also enjoy the old way of float rod and light lines. Will see how I get on over the next month or so as I would like to put more than the odd one on the bank. They are worth the effort as there is some cracking tench in the lake.

Re: Tench at Broom
Lookfar,
As far as I am aware raking of a swim is perfectly fine, as long as you are not doing it right next to another members float/leger. (obviously)
I have raked swims in the past at both the Airman and Broom lake and while it may take a while for the fish to move back into the area after all the commotion, the end results usually far outweigh the slow start.
