River Ivel - Astwick
Has anyone fished the Astwick stretch of the River Ivel? I had a look at the short stretch immediately downstream of the Astwick to Stotfold road bridge last year. Having looked at Google Earth since, the stretches further downstream between Astwick and Arlesey look appealing (from a satellite 20000 miles up!). Just wondered if anyone had actually fished the stretch?????????

Re: River Ivel - Astwick
A very good question and one I'd love to know the answer to myself! Speaking with Treefella a while back we concluded the best approach is probably a pair of chest waders and actually walk along the river as I have never been able to see an easy way of getting to the bank from the adjacent fields.
All you need to find are a couple of deep runs - hopefully not by falling in them! - and who knows what could be hold up there......
If you fancy a look some time give me a shout and I'll come along with you.

Re: River Ivel - Astwick
now, theres a possible photo opportunity!
One for the website - Andyk74 and Avalon Angling floating downstream, decked out in chestwaders.
Perhaps you should invest in one of those rubber ring type of bouyancy aids that the trout anglers use on reservoirs.

Re: River Ivel - Astwick
Interesting thought there Biggus, but I think that may be going a bit too far. Being no more than ankle deep in the bit you can see from the bridge, maybe an arm band each in day-glo orange would be more fitting.....

Re: River Ivel - Astwick
If those 2 are out there alone in their rubber gear, they will probably need the rubber rings to sit on.

Re: River Ivel - Astwick
You are only jealous Alan. . .
Sounds like a plan Avalon, have you got a second pair of chest waders as I don't own any. . .
Biggus Diccus, could you come along to photograph the day for prosperity reasons when Avalon and myself stumble on the best big Chub swims in the country????

Re: River Ivel - Astwick
On a slightly more serious note, for a change, I have got a pair of chest waders that you could borrow instead of Avalon's day-glo arm bands.
Let me know. They've been in the shed for a while and I can't vouch for their condition, but you're welcome to borrow them.
