Re: Pike matches

I thought I'd get in early and remind members that the first of the pike matches will be taking place on the 18th October with Broom Lake the venue.

All members are welcome to come along.

It would be useful to know likely numbers that are interested, so please drop me a PM if you are planning to attend.

Thank you

By way of an update a set of match rules have been produced, which participants will need to be aware of PRIOR TO ARRIVAL.

Please mail me so that I can get them sent out to those memebrs who are interested in finding out more.

Thank you. emoticon

Re: Pike matches

In what must have been far from ideal conditions, 9 enthusiastic members attended the first of the pike matches being run this season with Broom Lake the venue.

With the venue being fished predominantly for carp, quite what surprises were going to be thrown up by way of pike was uncertain; would there be a '20' brought to the scales or would it just end up being 'a nice day out' with a series of blanks recorded?

Thankfully, we came somewhere between the 2 (though a bit closer to the 'nice day out' scenario than the '20')

Dave Baker took the win with a 2 fish catch for just over 8 lb. Nigel Gilbert - again with 2 fish - came second with 6 lb+ and Chris Perry took third with one fish of 3 lb 9 oz.

It was good to see fish coming out from all round the lake, though a few more would have been welcome.

Members are reminded that the next pike match will be fished on the 15th November with Willington Lake the venue. There is a straight forward but none-the-less important list of 'rules' which anglers wishing to participate must have prior to the day, so if anyone who didn't fish at Broom Lake wants to find out more, please drop me an email.

Hopefully Willington Lake may provide a few more fish, hopefully with a few running into double figures! emoticon

Re: Pike matches

Update :-

Something which members may benefit from knowing are the most productive time and area(s) from which the fish were taken.

The window between 11.00am - 1.00pm (particularly the first hour to midday) seemed to be the time when most of the fish were taken.

Without question, static baits proved unsuccessful with all of the captures being made using either small livebaits or lures worked through the swim.

Surprisingly, the only area where fish weren't taken were the swims along the farmers field side of the lake (though one was hooked and lost). It seemed to be the more open swims in terms of large tree cover produced the goods.

Hopefully this may help if you are planning to launch your own venture to the lake in search of a predator or two! emoticon

Don't forget, the next pike match is due to be fished on 15th November with Willington Lake the venue.

It doesn't matter if you didn't fish the Broom Lake match as there should be plenty of swims available!

If you are interested in coming along or simply want to find out a bit more about the matches, please drop me an email, and I will look to get a set of the match 'rules' sent on to you.

Re: Pike matches

Sorry Everyone, me again looking to promote the pike match we have got coming up this Sunday at Willington Lake.

It's been a while since I pike fished the lake, but from what I can gather there is a good chance that something a little bigger may be on the cards when compared with results of the last match at Broom Lake.

The draw will be held at 8.00am with fishing from 9.00am - 3.00pm.

THE WATER WILL BE CLOSED TO GENERAL FISHING WHILE THE MATCH IS BEING FISHED (Though members may still fish the river behind the lake).

For a list of the match rules, please drop me an email or send an email to the following address:-

24hrmatches@shefforddaa.org.uk

These matches are a good way to get to meet like minded members and learn about the venues and the different approaches which provide what we are all after - fish on the bank!

Hope to see you on Sunday. emoticon
