Re: Weed Control
Mr wonda would like to know which weed you are clearing and were and how much you intend clearing IT has taken years to get things to grow in the airman it helps the fish to sporn and breed and shelter for the small fish. I do hope this is not a idea of the carp people thank you .

Re: Weed Control
Could you inform the masses if the weed contol in manual or the like of casoran G as i really couldnt see the issue in weed control in the airman, if casoran or alike it appears more funds spent without consultation again as to where it could be better used, could you clear this up please.

Re: Weed Control
I can understand questions being raised to clarify the type of weed control being carried out at the Airman and the reasons for it, but where does this spending funds without consultation come from, and if not the Committee, who would make the decision that it could be better spent, and when?
The Committee is elected at the AGM to run the club for the following year. Running the club takes a lot of time and effort throughout the year, and the Committee receive precious little help from the general membership. Attendance at the AGM sums up the true interest that members have for the general running of the club, but even this far outweighs the true interest that members have in the management of the fisheries, as the vast majority of work parties are totally devoid of general members. If people really cared, they would make an effort.
If the Committee have decided that weed at the Airman needs treating, there must be a reason and it must have been discussed. This is what Committees do. How else is it going to get done? Thepheonixx is a member of another fishing club Committee - I would be very interested to know which one, and whether they carry out consultations with their members throughout the year before they decide what work they can carry out, and what they can do with the finances.
I would add that work parties are a good place to discuss ideas with the Fisheries Officer, and this could provide a genuine chance, if necessary, to have these ideas discussed at Committee, and maybe adopted. If anyone believes they have something to contribute, turn up and help.

Re: Weed Control
It really doesnt matter what club i am a committee member of as i buy a shefford ticket every year and therfore i am member and entitled to my opionion, and by the way i do take the time as a committee member and baliff to ask members what they see as potnetial issues and what they would like done. I see myself as a pro active member of my club, i have never had any offical from shefford ask me for anything apart from my club book.
This should be a warning shot for all of you who never take any oppatunity to ask members on the bank of thier thoughts, and yes i do feed back to my club committee and push for a resolution. My advice really is to seek advice from members as some of them have a real wealth of experience, you know the ones who will give you honest feedback whether it is positive or negative.I know that members sometimes dont believe that you are working in their best interests and decision making can sometimes appear that the committee are demons but keep ignoring your membership and you will see a growing tide of resentment.
You still have not given a real answer to the weed control problem, i am really in too minds to renew my shefford ticket are as a few of my friends as the club appears not to be going forward in the direction in which they want to see.
Lets bring some problems to the fore if you want, any club who has been loosing money over the last few years and now has to let waters go (Harold contry park) stocking of willowing lakes to feed cormorants has not in my opionion spent the monies of its membership wisely. This is not yourmoney to spend as you want, its the money of the membership and dont forget that, you as committee members can be voted off and it would appear that some of the committee have been on there far too long as they really are making the decisions in their own best interests and not that of the membership.

Re: Weed Control
Would it be posible to be given more details as to what type of weed treatment is being carried out on the Airmen. Personally I really do not see any need for the treatment at all, the few weed beds there are and by weed I mean the elodea, and milfoil not the large beds of fringe water lily. It has taken a good few years for these types of oxygenating plants to take a propper hold. These types of weed are vital to the Airmen they hold loads of natral food for the fish, provide cover and areas to spawn in and features to fish to. From fishing the Airmen quite a lot the only treatment that may need to be done is the manual clearing of the fringe water lily beds which can dominate the car park end in the summer months.
If you look back at the Airmen over the years it is clear to see that venue has improved as the weed has grown the silver fish sport five years ago was crap and matches where won with a couple of small perch. Compare that with the recent catches of quality silver fish, bream and tench it is clear to see this is down to the growth in weed and in turn the rise in natural food levels. which can now surport larger numbers of bigger fish.
I really think this would be a bad move for the Airmen and is tottally unessasary.

Re: Weed Control
I don't believe the forum should be used for back and forth slagging off type messages, but as a supporter of the club, I would like to make a few final comments on the latest words from thephoenixx.
Firstly, I am not a committee member, so I cannot comment on what goes on at the meetings, therefore comments made are my own.
I find it perverse that a committee member from another fishing club should take every opportunity to criticise the club and the people who run it. He more than most should understand the problems of running a club, so to carry on as he does is all the worse. If you look back through the old forum there is a long history of this type of vitriol from him, and this from someone who does nothing for the club. It's almost as though he's trying to undermine the club. His most recent comments on the committee infer that he knows what goes on at the meetings, and what the membership in general wants, otherwise how can he make such statements?
Communication between the club and members is important, but it is a 2 way thing. The forum gives members a perfect opportunity to raise questions, but while constructive comments are welcome, criticism and blatant snide comments are counter productive and help no-one. If someone checks your club card, you can always ask questions then, as you can by ringing committee members. Your comments about a lack of feedback from members is wrong. A quick chat with the publicity officer reveals that the website survey produced over 100 responses, mostly positive. Bailiffs also feed back information gathered from the bank. Further, he receives a lot of direct e:mails and phone calls each week from members, many reporting catches, and these are once again positive. He did comment that virtually all responses were from non carp anglers, so it might infer that carp anglers don't actually have their finger on the real pulse of the club. I don't know this, and I may be wrong, but I'm just trying to demonstrate that it's too easy for people to assume that they know everything when they actually know very little.
There, I've just given vent to my own vitriol. If we all really want whats best for the club, and every member should want this, then lets go about it in a proper way. If you would like questions answered, or changes made, put reasonable requests on to the forum, or contact one of the committee guys and ask them to give you feedback. Turn up to work parties, and turn up at the AGM, but be positive. Don't slag people off for trying their best in difficult circumstances, when you are not prepared to make an effort yourselves.
It's interesting that if a simple civil request for information on the type of weed control being carried out had been made, without unnecessary comments about the committee, this mutual slagging off wouldn't have happened. My understanding is that some reeds are being treated to prevent more carp becoming tethered, something we should applaud, as the welfare of the fish should always come before angling preferences.
The end.

Re: Weed Control
Firstly hi all, new to the forum,
I have followed this thread and others in the old forum, many from thephoenixx and others, i think that alan has some good points but also think there have been many valid issues raised by others, i dont believe that thephoenixx has slaged off the club at all although some of his points are very direct and could be construde as such. The main thing is the forum is a place for other to air their views within limits and i dont see why others views can not be voiced with out being critisised. Seems this thread is really about the weed is there any update as to how it went.
