well looks like you are going to price the club out of members then what was decided lets hit the carp and cat boys the small amount of people you want to target out of the club thats causing trouble will afford this hike but the members like me who have to pay for there kids book as well cant and they even have to pay full price for a nite book but cant have there own swim at the airman and the talk of having three rods on there is a joke how many fish will be lost to line all caught up when they run and take every other anglers line with them looks to me as though there only looking after one sort of member ie match men thanks shefford getting ripped off by you now as well as gordon brown. Two less mebers to worry about then im looking at £200 for two books vauxhall here we come

An interesting outburst from 'Fishman291' to an announcement that Shefford members are getting a 6 weeks extension to their membership for no extra charge.

I hope 'Fishman291' hasn't throw his Shefford book away as he might need it if he wants to fish from 15th March and June 15th. Vauxhall were operating a close season on all their waters.

Vauxhall were also charging an additional £7.50 (per night) for a permit to night fish Harrold Country Park, maximum stay 48h and you couldn't return to night fish within one week. No mention of a reduced price for juniors. Isn't that a night permit?

Is there really any evidence to suggest that match men get preferential treatment from the club?

With reference to Fishman291's comments, I have heard several unofficial rumours about the "supposed" night ticket tariff, but as yet, and as far as I am aware, there has been no official announcement from the club.
Therefore I see no need to get irate about the subject until it is formally announced.
No doubt there will be those who will lambast me for my opinion on this, but I do think unsubstantiated rumours are harmful to the club and cause ill-feeling amongst members, when they are not necessarily true.
So why don't we all just wait and see what happens before letting accusations fly?

Nice sweeping statement, born out of ignorance and not out of facts, just as many bad people are pure match/pleasure anglers as carpers mate!

as for the night permit, if its affordable i wil buy it, if it isnt i wont, but if you are worried about swim stich up impose a 48hour on/off rule, works well at waters i've fished with stitching going on

besides hot swims blow very quickly in those cases.

as for the comments about harrold i wouldnt fish there if it was for free im glad shefford got rid of it and the extra 6 weeks free fishing you are talking about is so you can sort out nite permit prices and for people to get there photo id cards as for a closed season it gives the fish a rest from constant hammering. if im wrong about the price hike ill will eat humble pie but i know the hike will be to high for most why dont you open broom up for nite fishing if you want to charge for fishing nites or are people just going to have the airman and willington

So what if the extra 6 weeks is so the night permits can be sorted out? Sounds to me like its not a decision that is being taken lightly, if it is taking that long from now to finalise.
Also, I agree with nketcher's comment about there being as many bad matchmen/pleasure anglers as carpers.
At the end of the day, if everyone looked after the venues and treated them with the respect they deserve, then this issue may never have arisen.
I recently attended my first working party at the Airman, and was astounded at the vast amounts of rubbish strewn around the place. The thing that amazes me is that people take bags of bait, food and drink down there full, yet cannot be bothered to take the empty packaging home with them to dispose of properly!!!!
It is simply laziness, as it is so much easier to bag the rubbish up and sling it in the bushes around the carpark than take it home! There is no excuse for it.
When I go fishing down there, once my gear is packed away and in the car, the last thing I do before I leave is to go round my swim picking up ALL the rubbish, even if it isn't mine. As I like to leave the swim for the next person as I would like to find it.
With many things in modern life, it is a few thoughtless people that have ruined it for the majority, perhaps your virulence should be aimed at those individuals instead of the club, who I'm sure are trying to provide a pleasant and safe fishing environment.
As for fishing Broom lake, can you blame the club for not allowing night fishing when the rubbish and nuisance problem is as bad as it is at the Airman? Willington, as far as I'm aware, I havn't night fished there yet, doesn't seem to be as bad, and has always been in a clean condition when I have spent days fishing there. The main reason, I believe, is that it is not as busy as the Airman.
As for fishmans comment about "the hike" being too high for MOST, how many members have you actually asked about it? 5? 10? that is only a fraction of the total membership, and as far as I can see, you seem to be the only person on here making a song and dance about it, and on everyone else's behalf as well!!
Again, I agree with nketcher, if its affordable for me, I will buy it, if not I won't - simple as that. I am not necessarily happy about it (the fact that I have to pay extra to be able to nightfish because of some thoughtless people) but if it makes the venues safer and more pleasant to fish then that is a good thing.
As in my previous post, lets wait until after the AGM for the outcome before we start moaning and slating proposals that aren't in place yet.

Re: Membership

The decision to extend the current books to June 15th was not driven by night permits. This extension has been announced through the local press, club notice boards, bailiffs, tackle shops, the main web site and this Forum. However, it is not appropriate for the General Committee to explain, or defend, its decisions through this Forum which is open to SDAA members and non-members alike. Also, many SDAA members don't have access to either a computer or the internet. The General Committee are elected to control the affairs of the club on behalf of the SDAA members, and will explain their actions at General Meetings where all SDAA members can attend and air their views in person.
