Sometimes trolls aren't a bad thing....

I'm going to be honest. In the past year...I've skated once a month at best. I have a new job, I live in a new city, I got hurt really bad a year and a half ago skating a pool and needed stitches (a lot of them) and I was spending a lot of time with my girlfriend.

One thing I was doing, was posting at Concrete Disciples whenever I was goofing off at work.

Recently a troll there said to me:

quote:

"Listen Dushoni your fluffy soft crap can go somewhere else. Also I talked to some people who said that you skate about once a month,if that. How about F*ck Dushoni Fridays! I think that a good rule of thumb would be to skate the same amount of days a week that your on this board! Faggot(no offense to people who like penis)!"

Instead of getting mad....I did something else....

I skated.

Every day, after work for the past 2 months. I dropped 20 pounds and feel better than I have in 2 years. I'm also skating better than I have in a long time.

I also, changed my Concrete Disciples password to something I wouldn't be able to possibly remember and haven't posted there since and I refuse to. I don't particularly care for arguing with people, getting insults hurled at me from anonymous cowards and generally being negative as a form of recreation. I'd rather be skating.

Fu*k the internet. I'm OVER IT. I'll drop by this board to say hi to my Skaterbuilt Family but that's it. No more message boards for me. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to hop in the shower...I'm just getting home from a 2 hour session at the San Clemente park and I stink. Now I just need to figure out what park I'm hitting tomorrow....

Gotta run....

-Sean

PS: I got back f/s slash grinds last week. I'm stoked..way stoked.

Well said, Sean - good post!
I agree - when I first met the CD crew back in 2002 it was a WAAAAYYYYYY cool group... we rolled together, posted up where the next sesh' was, posted up where the new parks were popping up...
Even used CD to help raise $$$ for a bro' in need that owns a skateshop here in AZ that got shot exactly 3 years ago this month...
Over the last couple years CD has taken a severe left turn... more specifically, the last couple months...
There's still some good bro's on there, but the vibe is definitely not as positive as it used to be...
Don't hate - just channel like Sean has... and go sk8, relate and make some new friends... 'cuz in the end, that's what it's all about...
SB Bro Jam 2-1/2 in 6 months in AZ! Woo hoo!

Right on, Sean! You're right... trolls ARE good for at least something. Stoked to hear that you're skating, again. Been talking with your friend, Neil, too.

A similar thing also took place because of negative trolls and their posts... one of 'em decided to start some crap against a website that I work for. Well, long story short; people ended going over to the site and many of them donated funds to keep the site going! Any money that we make from the site goes into keeping it alive. So now, the site related bills are finally all caught up with.

What's amazing, is that 99.9% of skaters and surfers are cool people. Meaning that that they don't usually vibe someone for their riding abilities or how often they ride their boards. Or what equipment one is using. Who CARES? A real skater/surfer gets stoked on others that ride and that's the way it should be. In my book, those are the true skaters/surfers that keep the lifestyle going. Typically, those very same people contribute positive things to it all, as well.

Conclusion/moral to story: sometimes negative publicity breeds positive results.

Keep skating and havin' fun, Sean.
