Independence Day Plans (for Americans)
Anyone have anything cool planned for the Fourth?
We are going on a hike to a place called "Enchanted Rock", then having barbeque and swimming in the pool at my house. We will probably watch fireworks in our neighborhood, since downtown Houston is supposedly "targeted" for terrorism and my mom is paranoid. Oh well....the neighborhood ones are pretty nice. Also, we are going to buy some fireworks of our own.
It is going to be rather boring, though, because most of my family will be on vacation and not around. I can't go because I am taking a summer class at the college near my house. And my fiance is in Alaska in flight school, so I won't be able to spend it with him. 
But I will find a way to celebrate our country's freedom anyway! I really like the Fourth, what it means, what it reminds us of....Freedom, Liberty, Justice, Equality. How blessed we are to live in the USA...
And of course I will be blaring the songs "God Bless the USA" and "Born in the USA" and any other ones like that.

That doesn't sound so bad Sam. At least you get to be here in the U.S. for the Fourth. I have a few friends that are still in Iraq right now. I would hate to be over there for the Fourth of July.
I had plans but I had to push them back a few days. I am ex-Navy, so one of my friends here asked me to be part of the color guard for a Fourth of July celebration. I couldn't say no, so now I'm not leaving for San Diego until the 7th. I don't get to do the fireworks now but hey, I can do that next year right?...I hope.

You're right, mecha. I am thankful that I get to be in the good old USA for the Fourth. I am so very grateful to those that are in places like Iraq, working towards the cause of freedom for others.
If I were in Alaska for the Fourth, I wouldn't even get to see any fireworks, because it is daylight there so long in the summer that no one hardly does them. Plus they are not allowed in Anchorage, so you can't buy your own and do them unless you drive all the way to Houston, Alaska for them.
