The Stargate

The archaelogical find of the millenium! The Stargate enables humans to travel far beyond Earth's confines in mere seconds....

Here is the place to discuss all aspects of the Stargate, gate travel, wormholes, and other technological marvels!

Re: The Stargate

Personally, I think the Stargate is an amazing creation, both in the show and out. The plot surrounding a gate that uses wormhole technology to travel to infinite planets is both unique and completely original. It gives the show infinite story-line possibilities without making the sci-fi part of the show sound hokey.

As far as wormholes go, I've read Stephen Hawking's A Brief History In Time and I can say that wormholes and blackholes seem to actually exist. Whether it would ever be possible to harness one....well, I'm not an astrophysicist.

I totally think that worm holes and things like that could connect to other places in the universe and maybe those forces could be harnessed, but as far as being able to travel through them unharmed...well that's another question.

All of future space travel depends upon whether you believe Einstein when he said that anything that accelerates towards the speed of light gains mass as it gains speed, therefore making it impossible to reach any interstellar destination at the speed of light. Wormholes seem to be the only remotely possible way to travel quickly between two points in space. Now if we can just figure out if they can/do truly exist. emoticon
