sub-space?
Can anyone explain sub-space to me? I was watching voyager the other day and there was an anomaly that popped in and out of sub-space.... I was wondering if anyone could give me an explanation as to what it is and the theory behind how it works. My b/f who is a bit of an astronomy/physics buff explained it a bit and I just couldnt seem to grasp the concept. Could anyone explain it to me? I know it is theoretical in nature...just like wormholes are but he lost me after that.

Sub-space is a complicated theory. As I understand it, sub-space is like another dimension of real space. Real space has distance as we know it(it is many light years to the nearest star, Alpha Centauri). Sub-space has its own distance. A mile in real space might be equal to anywhere from one millimeter to a thousand miles in sub-space.
Sub-space is not subject to the same rules of time and space that our real space is. That is what enables people to travel great distances in only a few moments(Stargate). They travel through sub-space.
Does anyone have anything to add? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I always think of sub-space like this:
"Sub" means "beneath, below, under". For example, a "subway" is a form of transportation that is below the streets and sidewalks. I think of sub-space in this same way. Sub-space is beneath, or under, regular space. Whereas a subway travels faster than people walking or driving above the tunnels, sub-space is a way of traveling faster than regular space allows. If I were walking along a sidewalk, and you were in a subway car below me, who would get from point A to point B faster? Of course, it would be the person in the subway car (barring an accident or something). In the same way, things traveling through sub-space are able to go from point A to point B faster than things traveling in regular space. Sub-space is a way of bypassing "traffic jams" like asteroids, spacial storms, etc. In Star Trek, radio waves can be sent through sub-space "tunnels" to reach their destination more quickly than sending a radio wave through regular space. Obviously, larger things can be sent through sub-space as well; the Federation just hasn't perfected the science of it yet.
