Re: Moderators
I have two questions.
1. What are moderators responsible for?
2. What criteria are looked at when choosing a moderator?

Re: Moderators
Moderators are responsible for helping the boards to run smoothly. They have the ability to edit posts (due to content, language, location, etc. They can make topics sticky (meaning they stay at the top of the page in the forum), unsticky, they can close and reopen topics, can move topics to different forums, and can delete topics. Moderators are expected to help answer other board members' questions, and to generally be a model of good conduct on the boards. They notify people of spamming, avatar and signature problems, and help make the boards a nice place to be.
Moderators are chosen based on quality of posts (no spamming, unnecessary chat, etc.), frequency of visits to boards, adherence to board regulations, and conduct towards other members (no insulting, derogatory remarks, making others feel "stupid", etc.). Moderators are selected by administrators and other mods at times when more moderators are needed to maintain the boards. Later on, moderators will be assigned to specific forums, topics, etc. and their responsibility will be to maintain those forums to which they are assigned.
One of the quickest ways to NOT become a moderator is to ask to be one. The board staff will approach you with an offer to be a mod; don't go to them. We do accept recommendations by other members, if they believe a member would make a good moderator.
That's about it. Hope that is helpful.
