Major Samantha Carter
SG-1 team member, astrophysicist, and responsible for deciphering the Stargate addressing system.
Samantha Carter is SG-1's science expert. Brave and extremely intelligent, Carter determined (along with Dr. Daniel Jackson) that the Stargate system included thousands of worlds, rather than just linking Earth and Abydos. She is military personnel (Air Force), and the SGC's leading mind on the Stargate and wormhole theory.
Carter is kind and loyal, especially to those she cares about. She is the only woman on SG-1, and probably the highest-ranking female officer in the SGC. She is very dedicated to the Stargate program, working to bring about its existence even before Daniel Jackson made the gate work ("Stargate" the movie).
Here's your place to discuss the character of Major Carter!

Re: Major Samantha Carter
Samantha Carter was in the Stargate movie?! I didn't realize that. The last time I saw that movie was like 6 years ago.

Re: Major Samantha Carter
I don't think her actual character was in the movie, but she might have been mentioned. It has been a long time for me too, since I have seen the movie.
What I was saying there was that in Stargate: The Movie, she was part of making the gate work. We know that from SG-1 Series premiere, when Carter is first introduced. Her part was inferred. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Major Samantha Carter
Isn't it weird though that in the first episode of Stargate SG-1 it appears that Carter is joining the SG-1 "team" for the first time. Like, she's never been apart of it before. Then how did she make the computer system to run the Stargate? I dunno, I guess I never really remember them explaining that -- other than Sam saying that she's read all of Col O'Neill's reports and what not. That could mean that she's been there a while. Just a lil confuzing I guess.

Re: Major Samantha Carter
Cassandra,
I think that in the first episode, Sam is merely being introduced to the other members of the team for the first time. Remember, the SG-1 team is the actual crew that goes through the gate. She wasn't a member of SG-1 when she was trying to make the gate work.

Re: Major Samantha Carter
Yes, they just alluded to her being a part of the logistics of making the Stargate work.
I admire Sam because she holds her own in the face of the mostly-men environment she works in. She is admired for her intelligence, but also for her military skills. I actually applied to the USAF Academy right after high school. I got as far as 1 out of 3 people nominated by my congressman in my district, out of over 4000 applicants. But since only 1 spot opens up each year from each district, I didn't get the appointment. I have since gone on to pursue my science and exploration needs in other ways. I may still join NASA in the future.
I feel a kinship to the character of Sam because she has come up the ladder and gotten to where she is just as successful as the men around her, if not more so.
