posticon failed MOT :(

Well my T25 failed the MOT today, thought it might, but the list wasnt half as bad as I was expecting!! emoticon

N/S Rear brake pipe excessively corroded
O/S Rear brake pipe excessively corroded
Inner rear brake pipe excessively corroded
O/S front brake pipe excessively corroded
Rear part of exhaust has a bloomin hole in it! (silencer?)
Parking brake efficiency below requirements.

Just need to find a local garage or mechanic that is recommended as I got so ripped off last year. anywhere between Brighton and Southampton will be good!

Any recommendations? sure someone on here can help!

How Lazy are you Lizard??? emoticon

If you've got some tools and a jack you can fix all that stuff yourself!

The exhaust is just a bolt on item as I'm sure you know so even the most green mechanic can give that a go emoticon

As for the brake pipes...if you can get hold of replacement parts off the shelf you can easily fit them yourself with the aid of a brake pipe spanner and getting hold of some dot 4 and a 1 man bleeder kit from your local motorfactors.

As your brakes themselves didn't fail and it was just your handbrake you needn't touch your rear brakes settings. You can probably just adjust your handbrake. If you tighten it up so that it clicks a maximum of 5 times before it's definately on that should do. If it won't tighten that much then you might need to replace the cables but that is an easy task too! emoticon

If you've got the time and can get your hands on some tools then save some cash.

I understand though for some people that time is more precious than a garage bill. emoticon

Re: failed MOT :(

Thanks for the reply.

Normally my OH and I would do anything to save the pennies! and we're all for 'having a go', However my MOT runs out on friday and if I dont get it done then Im gonna have to knock our holidays on the head, and its the only time of the year that we get holiday off together, so I think im gonna have to pay a garage. So guess on this occasion Im mighty lazy! emoticon emoticon

I got a quote today.... £25 for the hoses, but £150 in labour, £150 for the exhaust, £100 labour, plucking numbers out of the sky but aware that not many garages near us will go anywhere near a VW camper!!! emoticon

Have been recommended a local company that have just started up in Yapton - a group of guys from a forum that have pitted all their experience together so will give them a go and see if they can help, and there are a couple of people on here I want to try.

Thanks again.
Di & Dave

Totally understand where you're coming from.

Here's a link to a page on the forum about a garage in Hove Days VW there's also a reference to a garage in Angmering run by one of the club members. Never used it myself but andrewt25worthing a good friend and he know's Dave (legotastic).

Good luck with finding a good garage. Put a post up in the Directory Of Services section to let us know who you used and how they faired in your opinion.

I think that the exhaust quote sounds a bit steep. Have you worked out the cost of buying the parts yourself to see if you're possibly being overcharged on that front???

Andy

dave is no longer at the garage in amering,i believe he now works in henfield.
i have been trying to find a garage around the worthing area that i would recommend to members,so far i havent been succesful!!
most are rip-off merchants and dont know anything about t25's,or they just wont touch them.
I do all the work myself now at least i know it's my fault if anything goes wrong!!

Re: failed MOT :(

Not sure what happenned there!!

Hi Di & Dave,

we are taking ours to a garage near Chichester called VDUB Campers, their site looks good and we are meeting them on Thursday.

With luck they will be able to sort out our little issues.

has any one else had dealings with Andy there?

Good luck with the MOT. must catch up soon

Hey Hun, googd to chat to u last night but gutted about your news..... Hope Andy is relaxing!
I took her to the place at Yapton this morning - nice guy there called Jake but he only really does bodyworks.
Took her to VDUB campers in Hambrook and awaiting quote but guy there mainly deals with aircooled (so you'll be alright-seemed really nice)
Then went to place that Jake had recommended in Southbourne - guy called Andrew Windsor - seems clued up, and reasonably priced.
no one can fit her in til next week so camping trip is out the window. emoticon
seems like they are as rare as rocking horse doodoo at the mo!!!
Let us know how you get on.
chat soon

I use a chap called Charlie at Charlies VW Workshop in Campbell Rd Brighton telephone 01273 696669.

In my opinion he is a bit of a legend and I have never been dissapointed with his work on all 3 of my vans.

However mine are all bays. I have seen T25s in his workshop before though so he must do them.

I have also found him extremely reasonable.

All the best
