LPG conversion on my Pickup
Well the ball is rolling have contacted AUTOGAS in Littlehampton with regards to converting to LPG so Im off to see them tomorrow will keep you all posted on what is said. He gave me a guide price of approx £1100 with the amount of miles I cover a year sounds pretty reasonable.

I'm very interested in your fuel conversion as I'm looking into it right now.
Do you know anyone with a type 2 conversion, where they put the LPG tank etc etc??

Stupid qustion...got a bit of brain fade.....Andy is your pickup air-cooled or water???
Just looking back over emails I have had about lpg and there's some question about how to heat the lpg on an air-cooled vehicle??
On water cooled vehicles they just use a feed off the coolant to vapourise the liquid gas.

I know a guy in Brighton with an LPG conversion on a Bay
He has to start the van on Petrol, then has a manual switch when the engine is warm, to switch over to LPG.
If the engine is cold then it wont start on LPG
I can see no reason why you would want to "pre warm" the LPG.
LPG will "freeze" if you draw it off too quickly, and/or the tank is too small

Hey,
Andy my pickup is Watercooled, Im going over to see them 2moro to have a chat. They advised me that they don't really do aircooled engines cause of the "how to factor". I will let you know what the outcome is. It is quite a costly outlay at first but I think it's worth looking into as we do quite a lot of miles over a year and don't think it would take much to do.
Of course there is the question why not just put another engine in her well if I was gonna do that I would probably go for a V8 or Porche engine anyway so fuel economy would be out the window anyways lol..

well with the miles etc in mind. at the moment if i was to put £50 quid in @ 105.9 per squirt I would get around 260 on a long run and around 200 on short trips.
According to the gas guy I would be getting around 250 on a tank of LPG. However that would only cost me approx £25 quid to fill up.
I will quiz him later today when i pop over to see him.

well i've been and seen them and they have given me a fixed price of £980 + VAT. This includes the basic vapour kit which will fit on my non injection engine & it also includes a 100 Litre tank which will be fitted inside the storage box in my pickup.
I am planning on doing this towards the beginning of Nov. They have requested that I leave my van with them for 4 - 5 days so they can do a full test on the system once it is fitted.
Let me know your thoughts.

as it's probably my fault that andy has decided to "gas" his van,ithought i would share my experiences with l.p.g. conversions.
I had my t25 westy 2.1injection converted in september 2007 by www.gasure.co.uk and have had no problems with the installation since.
As there are several misconceptions about l.p.g. hopfully i can help to dispel some of them.
1.affects performance- performance is exactly the same on petrol or gas.
2.affects mpg-mpg is within 2-3mpg of petrol consumption.
3.lack of suppliers-there are now over 1500 lpg garages in the u.k.
4.lpg overheats-calorific value of lpg is higher than petrol so runs slightly hotter,make sure your cooling system is running efficiently.
lpg(51p litre) at the moment is less than half the price of petrol(super unleaded £1.07 litre)
my tank is fitted in the wardrobe at the back of my van and is the same size as a spare wheel,this holds approx 60 litres of gas which gives me a range of around 300-350 miles.if the gas runs out it switches over to petrol.
my conversion in 2007 cost £895+vat so to recover the cost of conversion it will take 10,000 miles or two years to pay for itself(now just over two years!!!)
one of the major benefits of lpg is that there are virtually no emmisions from the exhaust pipe.
my conversion was done in approx 5-6 hours including full test and set-up.
i have been very pleased with my conversion and i'm happy to recommend gasure to any members thinking about it.
they now have a fitter at elite engines in basildon essex.
