Re: Chalvington picture thread... Feel free to add yours.
Hmm good point guys.
I though it was an attractive car (hence the photo), but then my knowledge of beetles is practically zero so i'm only looking at it from an idiot's point of view.
...Which goes some way to explaining why some people think that the 'public voting' of the concourse is unfair, you'll pick up votes for something that's shiney, whereas a vehicle with 100% original parts might loose out because of say it's colour. Wrong Wrong Wrong
It sounds like we need to educate people (myself included) on these sorts of things, we are a VW club after all!
I'll see if we can get something together in the magazine sometime.

If you found it atractive dale then it is mate dont let anyone change your mind mate , looked like a nice motor , seen much worse kicking around , but if the owner and other peoples like it , who cares , me personally would rather people never judged them ...... or maybe if people dont like the system then should stump up and spend all day checking them over like they do at MG meets , clipboard an all ....

I think the comments about it being a horrible car stem from comments the owner of the car made in PVW.
As for being a mismatch of parts i belive the only period incorrect bit is the heart tail lights (unless you count the 5! 67 only fuchs). This car was originally built a good 10 years ago when the trend was to put earlier bits on the car - think how many 70s beetles you saw with pre 67 wings back in the early 90s - and was revamped a few years ago with a bit of a tidy up and the addition of the air ride. Beautiful car and always seems well apprieciated, was interesting to see the amount of attention it gained from a non vw crowd at the 1066 cruisers event for example.

Think that this is an interesting point and i believe the issue here is that concours and public vote are two very different things and many people confuse the two. Chalvington makes it clear that the show is a public vote. And in general a lot of the people - even the VW fans would not know the difference between a lot of the stuff that would be picked up by concourse judges. A good example of this were the two convertable beetles one white and one black, both were beautiful cars but not many of the show attendees would have realised just how rare one of those cars were. And that brings up the problem of finding the people who will spot all of these things and getting them to judge the cars in an unbiased way in the time provided.
I like the judging system at chalvington as it is different to other shows and it means that cars that may not have had a fortune spent on them but look cool pick up trophies, i don't always agree with the winners, but thats just personal opinion.

Just throwing this out there as an idea....Maybee next year the show and shine should be called just than and not 'concours' as it was this year?? Hopefully it'll cause less questioning of who won what and why and maybee even turn it back into what was intended in the first place. A public appreciation vote of others vehicles.
