Re: My Australian Country Buggy
This is the father of the trekker (the kubel being the grand daddy) not enough is know about these beasts, built only in Australia, they were exported to some countries like The Philipense, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, Papua New Guinea!
It's a shame they didn't take off but then they are uggly as hell (but oh so cool) and built for function not looks, like the trekker they used bits VW of Australia had knocking around the factory, van bits, beetle bits and type 3 bits!
I'm glad its sitting in Sussex and look forward to seeing it in the flesh, good purchase there Mr 'Red!
Here's a link to a bit more info on them for those that are interested (which should be everyone!!haha!!)

Re: My Australian Country Buggy
WoW...a little bit a VW history I never knew. That's filled in a bit of a gap as to where the 181 came from.

Re: My Australian Country Buggy
Cool car, always nice to see a rare vw.
Is yours a late made one as it looks different to the others that i've seen ie. no front number plate pressing, four stud pcd and the wiper motor not on the screen?
Are there any parts on these stamped with the cool vw australia logo (two kangaroos and a vw badge)?
These things always remind me of the porsche jadwagen or the VW Hormiga.
