Ghost fan,
what Garage did you go to? as i went to the Garage at Gresley park, they are poo.. they had my car for two days, payed £100 then they said "they cannot do the job we do not know how to fix it"??
Then i went to an old friend at TURBOTRONIC Occupation lane Woodville, he had my car for one hour and it was fixed.
ghost fan be careful!! Simon had a head gasket, and he now has a new car!!! because of the mechanic was poo.. and cost him 1.000's to fix it..

Re: cars
Ok Tech.... you got me started.
Yes I had a mobile mechanic out to my car to do a head gasket on it for me & change the timing belt. After he managed to fluff up the first time, he replaced the gasket a second time & now has left me with a bloody big paper weight on my drive.
At least the car was in working order before he got hold of it. Now I carn't drive it. I towed it to another garage for a second opinion, yep TOWED it as I couldnt drive it in fear of making it worse than it currently is, if thats possible & the fear of getting arrested & creating a hole in the Ozone layer over Burton & Swadlincote. The garage told me how could this person just walk away from his responsibilities. The head has been skimmed too much & as a consequesnce the excesive compressions on the vehicle has caused blowby on the pistons & damaged the piston rings. I now need a new engine, which is going to cost in excess of £1300 not including the cost of getting it fitted. The car has now been off the road for over 3 weeks & has left me no option than to extend my loan with the bank & buy a new car. something that I didn't want to do for another 3 years.
Now I am majorly out of pocket.
I have sent this mobile mechanic a letter, outlining his resposibilities which has been set out by the consumer - Supply of Goods Acts 1982, telling him that he is responsible to put it right or re-emburse me the to cover what it would cost me to put it right & to contact me by this Thursday, which doesn't look like he will, so I will be taking this to the Trading Standards office on Thursday. I can see that I will have to take this matter to the court.
The beauty of working for the paper is that you get to have some good contacts in high places, I won't be going to the front of the shop for this, I will be going to one of the regional managers. I am sure that the local papers will also be interested. I will make sure this is sorted & this doesn't happen again to another motorist.

Re: cars
Be very careful at this point - he's within his rights to offer to fix the problem on his own, and you really don't want that. Far better to sue him for the cost of the repair plus your expenses (hire cars, diagnostics by other garages, etc) directly through the small claims court.
It might also be worth getting the job done by a main dealer so they can assess any further issues caused by the bodge job.

Re: cars
Thanks for that, will take it under consideration. Infact he came round today & offerd to tow the car away to get it fixed.
A little optomistic about that. I think though that it might be another garage who will be doing the work. I just hope that at this point he isnt going to try to turn the tables & blame me for the whole thing.

Re: cars
Hiya. I've just been told by my driving instructer that I can take my test in 6 weeks. He's taken me around the test route today. So all I've got to do now is put in for theory test.I'm really pleased.
