yes its jeff waynes war of the worlds or part of it may be rise of the machines, but the whole score is fantastic, its a musical, dont get confused with the film version not the same thing.

they re-released it last year its a two disk version, its set in the early 18th century when the machines come to earth, they have three legs and are simular to the tom cruise machines in the war of the worlds movie, its set in england and follows a soldier as he tries to survive, there is a live stage musical version out on dvd using the same musical score, do i sound like a fan?

If you go to buy the recent film version don't get confused with the original 1953 one, although that it still brilliant sci-fi and worth owning Jeff Wayne's musical adaptation was in 1978 and the new version starring Tom Cruise was released in 2005. I wasn't too sure how that would turn out, but I have to say it's one of the best pieces of sci-fi of the decade.
If you go to buy the musical version make sure it's the full 2 disc one - there is a single disc version subtitled 'Music from War of the Worlds' but thats only has bits and pieces and is utterly pointless.
Oh, and I'm being a bit picky here - the original story was set in the early 20th century, presumably ten years or so after the book was written in 1898, and the guy it follows was a science journalist although he does hook up with a soldier later on (played in the musical by David Essex)
