Re: has any one
I have to make a minor point with reference to your explanation Richard - it's a good description of a video feedback loop, but it's far from clear if it causes images of spirits to appear. We're talking 25 images per second, every second, and you generally have to watch it for at least half an hour to get something that may slightly resemble a face. That's 45,000 images, only one of which will have a vaguely face shaped component. You'll probably get a better hit rate by staring at clouds, or scattering scraps of paper or sand.
I'm not trying to be antagonistic - just carefully skeptical

Re: has any one
While I appreciate your comments on
"the loop" theory, I am a person who
prefers to keep things as simple as
possible ,at the same time trying to
understand as well, not wanting too
many fact,s or figures at once how
ever right they are..You wouldn,t
happen to be a "Leo " by any chance
would you ,as with respect you sound
a bit like my husband who has to get
fact,s and figure,s about threading
a needle.lol

Re: has any one
Kuang, thats for that more detailed explanation and it is a very good point. It obviously isn't a simple process or else everyone would be doing it. Have you ever tried it out of curiosity?

Re: has any one
Only accidentally when I worked in television
It is actually an incredibly simple thing to do - you just have to muck about with the distance between the TV and the camera, and the focal length of the shot. The feedback loop establishes itself very quickly and from then on it takes care of itself. The real ordeal is going through the footage afterwards looking for face-like images. You could actually do the whole thing with a webcam and a quality piece of video capture software like Fraps - that'd certainly make analysis a lot easier.
One interesting experiment to try is to use a photo editing program with a cloud filter to generate images and see what appears there. In five attempts just now I managed to get something to appear that's remarkably like a scottie dog face-on. I know it isn't because the algorithm can be examined in detail and will create the same image every time given the same starting parameters.
Again, I'm not saying that the images that appear during feedback loop recording aren't something other than the result of pareidolia, but I think that it's important to be cautious - I've read reports from people convinced they're generating evil spirits through their television, and it does make me worry slightly for their wellbeing.
Oh, and Bezzajs - nope, I'm Taurean and fit the stubborn archetype perfectly, but only insomuch as I'm never prepared to take anything at face value when I can put some work in and try to reach a deeper understanding

Re: has any one
Thanks for that KuangEleven, I suppose
I,m a bit gullable really as I am a
person who mainly believes what I see,
and do take things at face value, which
I suppose I didn,t ought to...Bx

Re: has any one
No, not at all - I think that a wide number of approaches to every problem is most likely to get the best results. I'm a skeptic who likes to delve deeply into new ideas and concepts before deciding on a stance, but I like knowing that there are pople who will dive straight in and try to explore as much as possible because there's a very good chance that they'll spot something interesting before I do There's nothing wrong with trying all sorts of weird and wonderful routes either because you never know what'll get results.
As with everything, the most important thing is to make your own mind up - none of us can prove or disprove the existence of the paranormal, so we're all just as likely to stumble upon something and be proved right
Oh, and ignore Most Haunted at all costs - they really are muppets
Incidentally, has anyone here ever had a serious go at any video feedback techniques? Has anyone ever thought about trying it with sound?
