Re: Rods
Interesting, and also a good explanation....although when I capture an insect in flight on my camera it just looks like a blurred insect, maybe some experimentation with shutter speeds would prove this theory.

Re: Rods
It must be a combination of shutter speed and insect's travelling speed. If you just photgraphed any insect with any camera then i think they would be more common.

Re: Rods
Good report, i had a look into this today. Most do look like insects but some of the footage i have viewed on the internet is very odd. Think we should do a few tests of our own.

Re: Rods
Using a slow shutter speed seems to be the key to this, an series of tests will be carried out soon. Reports will be available in the Research area.

Re: Rods
I know that you have by now conducted tests to see what exacly you think rods are, all as i can say is dont blind yourself with technology.
Yes is allot of information regarding this topic on the net, but lets not forget about the rock carvings dating back over 1000 years, how do you explain there impressions.
The blurd bug theory gets thrown out of the window for that one hey.

Re: Rods
Just a few thoughts..
Ancient cave art tended to be symbolic rather tham impressionistic, so just because you see a similar form to something that's recognised today, doeesn't mean that was the intention.
Consider also that 1000 years ago really isn't that long ago - languages and written communicaion were well established - so rock carvings made then were more likely to have been art for art's sake rather than a serious attempt to replicate a natural phenomenon. I assume you're talking about the argentinian rock (singular) photo, which doesn't really carry much statistical weight - maybe the carver just liked squiggles
FInally, if you can't see 'rods' now without the aid of a camera (conicidence, that) then how would people thousands of years ago have seen them?

Re: Rods
I can see your point regarding these creatures & being caught on camera. But there has been very few documented incidents in this country, but in Australia & Central America there has been many sighting with the naked eye & caught on Camera.
