Derby Gaol - Condemned experiment
This Thursday night at around 10pm i am going to be locked into a small dark prison cell at the Derby Gaol...alone...for 12 hours!
Now you may ask yourself, why would anyone want to put themselves through that? it sounds too scary to stay in there alone.
But think about it, what if you was to lock yourself in your own bedroom alone for 12 hours, not so scary is it?
So why is the prison cell scary? there is actualy very little difference between them, both have 4 walls, a ceeling, a floor and a door or two.
It's about how you prepare yourself for something to happen, which i believe could be the explanation for alot of paranormal activity witnessed during investigations. You go there with the purpose of wintessing paranormal activity, you expect to see it which is probably why people are quick to link something fairly meaningless to the presence of a spirit, like changes in room temperature and noises for example.
That is basicaly what this experiment is all about, and it can go in two directions.
1) Without the power of suggestion or having more nervous and jumpy people around me i feel that it is much easier to relax and think about things more rationaly, very little seems to happen if anything at all.
2) I find that i can not bare the thought of being alone for much longer, I start imagining there is something around me but go mad with fear because there is no one i know to comfort me and to make me feel safety in numbers.
I would like to hear your thoughts on this, wether you would try it yourself and also what you think might happen. Also if you have any ideas for some tests which can be carried out during the night.

Re: Derby Gaol - Condemned experiment
My only concern would be what if something did happen!
What is your get out plan?
Is there going to be someone available to let you out in this event?
I am not sure doing this sort of thing on your own would be something I would consider.
Good Luck

Why not? why is it any different from any other room? its just 4 walls, a ceeling, a floor and a door.
There will be a back up person, for health and safety purposes but it is strictly a last resort.

Re: Derby Gaol - Condemned experiment
Maybe my scepticism has been put to the test just lately.
I suppose as long as you are strong willed and minded and don’t suffer any sort of claustrophobia then you should be OK.
It would be interesting to see how your mind holds up under these conditions.
IF these walls in the Gaol can hold past memories, then these memories are not going to be nice. IF it is possible for the mind to pick up on these things then it could be a rough ride. With you staying in this place for such a long time you may start to pick up on these. It would therefore be interesting for you to note down how you are feeling every hour, maybe record you feelings on a Dictaphone.
Do you plan to occupy yourself with something or let yourself take in the atmosphere?

Re: Derby Gaol - Condemned experiment
A little bit of both, i will be carrying out experiemnts but i plan to be there for 12 hours so will have plenty of time to take in the atmoshpere.
I am treating this as more of a psychological experiment then a paranormal experiment so it will be intresting to see what happens and how i cope.
The new date weve set is November 2nd, couldnt do it the other week due to techincal difficulties.

Sounds amazing, I wish you the best and keep your nerves about you.
We just finished an investigation on the weekend. Will be posting about it.
Will you post pictures of this one?

Re: Derby Gaol - Condemned experiment
Hope this went well, (if it has happened yet!)
One small observation, one difference between a cell and your own bedroom.....
There is usually a handle on the INSIDE of your bedroom door, there isn't one in a cell!
Once you're in, you're in, until someone lets you out!
Cheers

Re: Derby Gaol - Condemned experiment
This one is on hold at the moment, just trying to find the time to sort things out. Both SPI and Richard Felix spend alot of time organising events but i can hopefully do this later in the year.
