Re: Grace Dieu Prioy
A few observers suggest that solar energy may lead to an increase in local electron density over part of the planet and this could in turn create a charge that will cause light artefacts through some as yet unknown mechanism. This seems to be gaining ground as research is carried out.
Two theories tied closely together are related to Griffydam's suggestion - one states that stress across the Earth's tectonic plates could cause electromagnetic 'stress fields' in the same way that squeezing a quartz crystal will generate electricity. Increased ELF levels have been observed and recorded to coincide with earthquakes and afershocks, often in the same areas as earthlight sightings. The other suggests that the pressure can come from activity where edges of a faultline come into contact.
The final one relates to volcanic activity - it has been suggested that magma disturbances create ULF waves that play serious havoc with the local magnetic field and could lead to light anomalies in conjunction with external influences.
On top of that you have proven and well understood occurances relating to combustion of marsh gas and similar, but those are limited to specific areas and circumstances.
The funny thing is that there is still relatively little recorded evidence of any of these things actually happening despite so many people looking into them. This seems to be the case in many hotly disputed aspects of the paranormal.
