The Old Odeon Cinema or Robins Cinema
I have got several stories on this location I will tell you of a few that I have had & then I will try to get my wife to post a few on for you aswell, as she worked there for many years.
One night I was helping the projectionist, whilst Anita was working & I was waiting for her to finish. I was upstairs in their rest room on the top floor. The projectionist had left to go to attend to one of the cameras. I thought that he had gone to the projection room for screen 1 on the top floor. He had gone for a few moments & though that I had heard him call me. I went to see him & walked out of the rest room & looked accross to the projector room & called him, there was no reply. I went into the room to see that there was no one there & the projector was working fine, So I went back heading towards the rest room & at the top of the stairs was a coat rail & suddenly one of the coats hanging up on the rail swished out as if someone had just wakled past it & then I went realy cold. Upon feeling & seeing this I called out once more & had no rely, so traversed the 30 odd steps, touching about one or two on the way down to find that the projectionist was infact working on one of the projectors on the ground level in the back of screen 3 & thet there was noone but me upstairs. When I told the projectionist that, he said oh, that was the old projectionist, that worked there many years ago. He said that he had worked there on many occasions & had heasrd the projectors start up on their own & heard the splicing machine being working. It was allways on the thursday night, which was the changover for the new films. He apparently hung himself from the balcony, when the cinema was once a single screen.
