Shop Safety

I have always preached shop safety and usually practiced it. I always wear gloves when using the torch. Well a couple days ago I was welding on my trailer fenders with the torch. I couldn't find the striker so I was using a bic. I had my glove off for some reason and relit the torch with out the glove. Normally not a big problem but this time the torch had popped and went out so the oxygen was still on too. It lit adjusted to a nuetral flame and immediatly blowed a quarter sized area of my hide off my forfinger. Stupid. Don't try this at home boys and girls.

Iv'e done the same thing with the torch a couple of times. Ya'd think I would have learned after the first time. It takes a good long time for one of those burns to heal.
The little 4-1/2" grinder has also got me pretty good.

Re: Shop Safety

I was using a wire wheel in a drill one time and the part I was working on kept moving so I held the drill in one hand and part in the other. Dumb move. The wire wheel hit my glove and went straight up my forearm. I had on gloves and short sleeves! Took a strip of hide off my forearm and left some metal wire in there.
