frame width different?
I know this is the 67-72 forum but I have a 77 F-150 4x4 and was wondering if the frames were interchangable. Are the cab and box mounts in the same spot and are they the same width apart so a person can just bolt on the 67-72 cab and box? With this I could have dics and a 4x4 with power steering easier than doing it to the 71 that I have. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Re: frame width different?
The cab should bolt on just fine but the box is gonna be a trick. The frame width is wider on the 77 from the cab back.

Re: frame width different?
Thanks! That will help in determining if I want to tackle it. It sounds like it will be worth it.

Re: frame width different?
I put a 72 F-100 2wd body on a 76 F-150 4x4 chassis and the cab bolted right on. I had to carve out the drivers side inner fender to clear the power steering box. To hold on the bed I used some square tubing cut to fit snugly inside the frame and just drilled down through the existing bed holes and through the square tube. It seems like the two short bolts at the very back actually lined up. Now the main problem is just cosmetic but the 73 and newer wheelbase is two inches longer and the wheels aren't centered in the wheel well openings. The only real way to solve this problem would seem to require major surgery of some sort like relocating the rear leaf spring perches or shortening the frame and also then shortening the driveshaft. One thing I haven't tried though and may hide the difference would be to split the difference and move the bed back one inch. Then maybe it wouldn't be too noticable, well to most people anyway. A purist would see it right off.

Re: frame width different?
I just saw a 4x4 truck on my way home with a 73-79 bed and 67-72 cab and front clip. Talk about looking weird!
