4x4 engine perches
OK, got a dumb question. I've never messed with 4WDs, so my knowledge on them is considerably limited.
Anyway...suppose I had a 4x4 that I wanted to drop an FE into. Now on the 2WD trucks, there are two different styles of engine perches...the early non-power-steering perch, and the later power-steering perch. Would I be correct in assuming that the early-style non-PS perch would work just fine in a 4x4, since the steering box is mounted in front of the axle? In essence: Would a 2WD FE non-PS perch fit without any mods in a 4WD, regardless of whether it's got PS or not?
Also: is there any difference between F250 2WD perches vs. 4WD? I'm kinda thinking it's a 'one size fits all' thing...but I'll defer to those more experienced.

Re: 4x4 engine perches
Maybe 4x4x4 can verify with a part number search but I seem to remember there being some difference when I was ordering new ones to try and put a smallblock in a 76 F-150 4x4 chassis. I ordered 2wd ones but I sold the truck without ever attempting the swap and I am pretty sure I left those engine perches under the shed when I sold my place in AK.
Now I have put an FE and a 351 C into F-250 4x4s that originally had a 6. I just had to move the perches back. Not all the holes were in the frame for the bolts but at least a couple were to locate them. I welded them in.

Re: 4x4 engine perches
Keith I will try to get the part numbers researched. In the mean time I have taken a couple of photos of my engine mounts. 360 4x4

Re: 4x4 engine perches
Mark: great pictures...thanks. That DOES answer my one of my questions. One of the things I was wondering was if the 4WDs and 2WD perches interchanged, and of course they can't since the 2WD perch bolts to the front crossmember, which the 4WD doesn't have. I look forward to seeing what you're able to come up with.
willowbilly: so you're saying that (at least in the case of 4WDs) the I6 and FE mounts will work for a 351C? Cool! Good to know. Thanks!

Re: 4x4 engine perches
Yes but the 351C didn't fit real well, it was almost touching the fire wall and the right hand manifold had to be juggled down into place loose while lowering the engine and then bolted on after the engine was set. I didn't move anything on the tranny, just bolted the engine to the 300-6 bell housing.
