how to fix dash at the speaker location
This is what the prior owner did to my dash and it looks good and hides the old speaker holes in the dash very good. Get a flat as you can 6x9 metal speaker grill. Paint it to match the color of the dash. Use a sheet rock mounting screw (the long screws with the butterfly nut that goes behind the sheet rock ) push the butterfly nut under the metal wholes of the metal dash and then put the screw through the 6x9 grill. Snug it up and wallaw! It is tricky but it can be done.
