dash pad

I picked up a fairly decent dash pad today. Good shape except for normal smashed in speaker hole.
Has anyone come up with a creative fix for this, or do we just cover it with a speaker grille? emoticon

Re: dash pad

I got the dash for 25.00 and paid an extra 10.00 for one of there young and energetic hands to pull it. It was pretty darn hot and the seat of the old truck was full of ants, (I bet the Texas guys know what kind).

I also got a good set of the rear corner markers and a front signal lens for 10.00, pretty good haul I thought. Ron

Re: dash pad

The dash pad that's going into my truck came from a parts truck...the speaker grille is perfect. However, the truck had been sitting for a while, so I'm not entirely sure if the pad is brittle or not...heh...I haven't tried cleaning it up yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can get it cleaned up without breaking that grille area out...I know how fragile they are.

Re: dash pad

Almost all the old ones are sort of brittle, unless they lived in a garage all their life.
Thats from the UV rays. Mine is sort of brittle in areas. I don't go punching my finger on the pad, thats for sure...Many people try armor-all, etc, etc, to try to liven them up. Myself, I sort of think that is a mistake. Not sure why, but to me, I think adding that stuff makes the pads actually start cracking worse. Or I think anyway. If the pad is not cracked up, I think it's best to leave them alone, and just keep the sun off of them. I made a vinyl naughahyde cover for mine, that is about the same color as the dash. It's cut out to exactly fit the dash. It looks about like the "fuzzy" 40 buck dash covers you see in the mag's, but mine is not fuzzy. The texture is close to what the actual dash is. It doesn't look as good as the bare dash naturally, but it keeps the sun off of it at all times, including when driving. My pad is in pretty good shape. No big cracks at all. Hopefully, using the cover should prevent those from getting much worse. I also use the windshield covers to further reduce heat in the cab. MK

Re: dash pad

Seems like you could make a filler pad of sorts to fill the void underneath the speaker area. And make it even with the rest of the bottom side of the dash pad. That might make it less prone to damage. Unless you were planning to install the factory style speaker. My .02 Ron
