I got in my 70 tonight and after I started it I noticed the gas, oil and temp gauges did not work, they worked fine the last time I drove it. All of the other electrical components work including the amp gauge and there is no fuse for the gauges so anybody got a idea where to look for the problem. Jeff

I think the first thing I'd have checked out would be the instrument voltage regulator located on the back of the instrument panel:

I found the problem it was the printed circuit was broken where it attached to the voltage reducer,I cant believe the differences between the years of the instrument clusters. I have a 69 and 71 clusters and they both are different then a 70 so it looks like a trip to the junkyard to get a couple of extra clusters,I was able to repair it so the gauges will work for now. I like good old-fashoned wires like the '69 and earlier instead of that flexible circuit board. The '71,'72 are the same but the '70 is unique along with it's IVR.

Hmmm...I didn't realize there were any differences in the '70-'72 instrument panels. I've got one '71 panel laying around, guess I'm going to have to do some more investigative photographic journalism to find out the differences. So what should I be looking for?

Hi Keith!

The '70 circuit board has the IVR mounted upside down compared to the '71, '72 (or is it the other way around, it's been a while).

Also, the '70 IVR has the contacts swapped (male is female and female is male) so when it's flipped it plugs in correctly on the circuit board.
