What size battery
Yesterday I got my truck back from the body shop and the battery was dead. It will not hold a charge. Of course, the little tag says it was a '88, so I guess it did its job well.
What size batterys came standard? I've got gauges and will be adding a low output ford am/fm 8-track. Later on, I may want to add an under dash A/C.
What is a good size, as far as cranking power, etc. for me to look for?
BTW, they did a pretty good job on the paint and body. It was a high school program, so considering the skill level, I'm happy. I'll post pics once I get the trim on.

Re: What size battery
That's a nice looking battery. I wound up getting a $40 battery from Autozone.

Re: What size battery
If you live in the south you can get by with just about anything. Up north all my cars have the biggest Interstate Megatron plus that will phsically fit. They run close to $100 a pop these days and are money well spent. Mine sat for two Alaska winters and popped my 72 right over when I got back. I did take it out and put it in the shed.
Your truck may have came standared with a 24F or the optional 27F.
That vintage Autolite sure looks nice, but I had a lot of trouble in the mid seventys with the stock Ford batterys being real nasty. I think they might have been Motorcraft by then. On my first new Pickup in 74 they didn't even get the lid glued on good and it got acid all over everything under the hood.

Re: What size battery
Optima red top battery is the way to go. They are pricy but worth the money. I put one in the Harley 2 years ago and forgot about it. The charging system on the scooter has always left something to be desired, but the Optima has never failed me in 2 years. Thats a first for this bike. I bought the bike in 1984 so thats a good testament. The one thing I realy like about the Optima is that it is a dry cell battery. Thay means it has no fluid and no need for venting. This equals no corrosion from the battery. I know for a fact that I am not the only one of us that has had to rebuild the battery tray due to battery leaks that ate up the old tray.

Re: What size battery
Is Optima the top dog now? It used to be Interstate but I've heard they've gone down a peg or two.
My 10 year old Diehard is living on borrowed time, still cranks nice and strong though.

Re: What size battery
I have Interstate in my truck, my Taurus, and the wife's Topaz. My vehicles have 1000 amp bateries, hers has a 600 cause that's all that would fit. I have been very happy with them, and it does get cold here in the winter.

Re: What size battery
I have heard a lot of good about the Optima. Other than the obvius maintainence issues, how do they compare in reserve capacity to a Megatron plus?
