Re: Tachometers

Electrical are much easier to hook up. To use a mechanical, you have to have a special distributor with a tach drive output.

Mechanical tachs are more accurate and quicker responding, which is why they're used on high-dollar racecars...but they're a bit more expensive, and as Steve mentioned require a special distributor. For normal street use, an electrical tach is just fine and more than you'd ever need, plus it's a very simple 4(?)-wire hookup. I'd definitely recommend picking up a nice electrical version.

Re: Tachometers

From one ford fan to another, I've done quite a bit of research on my 67 F-100. Although electrical gauges would be easier for installation, I have stumbled across a killer site with some really sharp gauges. Here's the link if you care to take a peek.

Thanks for the link, BMT67...yeah, there's a link to that place on the Links & Resources page. They've really some really cool panels there...but the last time I was there I didn't realize they also sold gauges too. They've got some very cool gauge styles. I'll have to look into that a little further in the near future.
