Headers with AC
I was stripping down a 360 yesterday that's going to be supplying the power steering and AC components for my 390, when I noticed that the AC compressor has a support rod that goes from the top of the compressor down to a stud coming out of the top of the driver's-side exhaust manifold. I plan on installing headers, and was wondering what those of you with header-equipped FEs and AC do in this situation. Is there an aftermarket bracket that will allow the support rod to be used? Or is this rod really necessary at all?

not necessary
The full size FE air-conditioned cars with the log manifolds (Galaxies, Tbirds etc.)used that brace but the intermediates with the "GT" style manifolds (Fairlanes, Cougars, etc.) didn't, no room for it. My CJ Mach1 w/ air didn't have one either. It's an ugly bracket anyway. :)

Re: Headers with AC
Take some flat stock and run it from a top bolt hole on the compressor, to one of the bolt holes on the driver side of the intake manifold.
The dentside f100 351W engines
(possible other 351w) have it setup this way. You may even be able to pick up the brace in a junkyard.
