Re: Say GoodBye to the 360

Yeah, I guess I am Glad I still have it. $$$

The FE Forum guys seem to think my "S" code intake is a POS. Can't find a Cobra Jet manifolds close to me, and people are asking 300.00 for PI manifolds (I had no idea they were worth that.) So I'm price checking new Blue Thunders.

I'm going to have 4500.00 in this engine by the time its done and its nothing real special, just a strong bottom end, with a Holley.

Not going to overspend on the heads for now, just the CJ valves and blending the bowls to match. They already have the Crane springs and so forth. I really want a set of the Blue Thunders if they ever come out, and the thought of 2 4V crosses my mind more than it should.

As for Ford Blue, its my understanding that the diffrent carlines even have diffrent colors. So the "correct" color for a 68 Mustang, might not be "correct" on a 68 Galaxie. There also isn't much consitancy in the labeling between engine paint brands.

The stuff on my valve covers actually seems to have a greenish aqua tint to it. It's definately not the old bright but dark ford blue which IIRC most paint companies called "old ford blue" a guy really needs a program to follow them all.

I may end up ordering each of POR15's colors to find the one I want.

Re: Say GoodBye to the 360

I just picked up a nice used Edelbrock Performer 390. I would be interested to know how it compares with the Cobrajet or P.I. units.. I will basically just be using it on a stock 390 to get rid of weight and have a 4 barrel. Probably run headers too after I research some good quality ones that don't cook the starter or make it difficult to change.

Well if you dont have a Side Winder,PI,Blue Thunder then the Edelbrock is a good one as long as it's the Performer RPM and not just the Performer.

I run the Edelbrock RPM.

This one just says performer390 so it probably isn't an RPM but it seems to be the only one available from Summit and Jegs. Are the others you mentioned dual plane? I know the factory units are but the sidewinder, blue thunder and the RPM?

FWIW, the FE-Forum and FomoCo FE forum guys don't seem to care for the regular performer.

It has actually been said that its worse than a factory 4V intake for power. (And we've already established what they think of the Factory intake.)

Yea, the Performer is not one known to help make any HP gains..

The RPM is based off the Side Winder/PI intake..This in take has been used on motors that have seen some big HP #'s (400-575HP.. Thats just the one's I know of first hand)
I'm going to be useing the RPM to try and push me up around the Ladder #'s.... emoticon But this will be something that I'll be doing over the next yr.

The runners in the Performer are not as big as in the RPM's so the Performer cant supply the Same Air/Fuel needed for the bigger #'s
