Re: types of carburators
barrel, venturi = same thing
2-barrel, 2V = same thing
Here's a pic of a 4-barrel (bbl) carburetor. You can see the two small venturis in the front half, which are the primaries, and two larger venturis in the rear, the secondaries.

Re: types of carburators
All I know about mine is it LOOKS like this one:
but it's more of a bronze color and it leaks fuel out the front when not running. I guess that's the float bowl and the thing sticking out of it is the accelerator pump?

Re: types of carburators
The accelerator pump housing on the front is prone to leaking and they actually can get warped from over tightening. I always lap them with a sheet of emory or body shop sand paper of about 180-220 grit. That will get it flat again so it will seal when you install a new accelerator pump diaphram.
These are good old carbs and they don't come much simpler to work on. As with many carbs of that vintage, the choke mechanisms create most of the common problems. If you live in a cold climate almost surely you will have to set in the truck and keep it running unless you want to leave it on the high step of the fast idle cam and listen to a cold engine screaming. The best versions are the 69 and earlier with the manual choke as these have a ramp for the fast idle instead of the flawed steps of the auto choke.
Go to the parts store and buy a kit and a float for about $25 and have at it. Also buy a can of Berryman's B-12 aerosol carb clean and use the little red straw to shoot the stuff through all the passages. If you have compressed air blow them out afterward. Your kit will come with alot of stuff you don't need so make sure to compare the gaskets real good and get the one with all the same holes.
And don't forget to take the tag numbers with you as the parts man will ask for them. If yours doesn't have the tag anymore prepare to be treated poorly by the partsman. In that case just ask him to give you the most popular kit for your year and engine as they should have the part popularity in their data.

Re: types of carburators
are autolite 2100's and motorcraft 2100's the same thing? I got clymer's book and it has a diagram of my carburator but the chilton's does not seem to. It just has some charts and about 3 pictures of ones that seem to be 80's models. also I added some pictures of the carb to my photo album
