posticon Indy Mustang

This is just a heads-up for anyone who's seen any advertising for Indy Mustang, who do a lot of online advertising trying to sell high-performance rebuilt Ford engines. Please take a few minutes to read this thread at the Corral Forums (a Mustang messageboard) concerning this business.

http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=162868&highlight=indy+mustang

There's a LOT of very unhappy customers, and I just wanted to share the reports with you all, before someone here got taken in by these guys.

Re: Indy Mustang

The underlying thread I saw throughout the whole thing was most of these people were buying because it was cheap. You get what you pay for and anyone that would lay down hard earned cash to someone at a distance that they know nothing about, just to save a few hundred bucks, is just about garaunteed to be learning a hard lesson. When I was in the garage business, I saw it all the time. " Well I can get a 350 chevy down at so and so for 895 installed ". I would just tell them if price was the only factor determining who got their business then they were in the wrong shop. I wasn't the cheapest guy in town and had no intention of being.
And one other word, don't let one of those chevy machine shops build your Ford.

I just saw a listing for an engine on ebay from indymustang and they only had a feedback of 42 with one negative. How can that be with all the bad experiences so many people seem to have had with these guys? I would think the total number would be higher too. Maybe they re-register with a slightly different spelling on their name whenever the negatives pile up.

Re: Indy Mustang

Virtually all of their feedback is from purchases made, or individual engine components sold. I did a quick scan and didn't see what appeared to be any feedback from rebuilt engines sold. The two that WERE had something like these:

"Not what I expected- but I got an engine" (...but this guy still left positive feedback.)

It's my understanding that he does a lot of advertising elsewhere, and that's how they've been getting customers.

Re: Indy Mustang

You know whats struck me funny about all on this afret thinking about it was........

When I read the feedback it was from non-business types.

Now, I realize that private parties buy engines all the time, ( im one of them)
But to not see any Businesses complaining makes me think.

That perhaps they sell well and there competitors are behind the complaints?

I am a long time business owner myself and ive seen my competition do some shady things.

Just a thought

Paul

Re: Indy Mustang

I had them build me a 351-W for my 55 fairlane and when I fired it did not run hot and had decent oil pressure,I dont have an exhaust on it at this time and I dont hear any knocks so I think he did a good job. There are only a couple of little things I did not like about the motor is he used a 302 cam and the motor was pieced togather from parts, maybe I was expecting too much if the motor would have parts that came from one motor only but if it holds up I will be happy as the warranty will be over when the 55 hits the road. I read the posts about him and he does take along time to complete the motors but since I was getting the 55 ready to accept a 351 the time it took to build the motor was no problem as I still did not have what I wanted to get done finnished when he competed the motor. When I seen his shop I was a little concerned about what the quality would be as its a little worse then on the sanford and son show but like I said if it holds up I will be happy. I was wanting to buy a 351 crate motor from ford but when I was talking to the crew from ford at the turkey run they kind of hassled me about taking the Y block out of the 55 and was telling me I should of built the Y block instead,I had the money to buy it but why should I if they acted like they did not want to sell a motor plus when I asked about a warranty they said there was basicly non on them so I went the rebuilt route. I did not mean to ramble but I can understand the concerns about indy mustang but I think they have did a good job for me and time will tell and I will report back on how the motor holds up. Jeff
